Week 5- The 19th Century

  • In the Studio

    In the Studio
This 74in x 60.6in oil on canvas painting by Marie Bashkirtseff is beautiful in its detail. The focal point is the girl in the blue dress and the boy who is the model for the painting, showing what is done in the artist studio. The bare floors with the lighting brightening as it reaches the boy is where the eyes of the viewer are drawn to like a path lighting the way to where the artist wanted the audience to look.
  • Into the Blue

    Into the Blue
Into the Blue is a 29 1/2in x 32 1/4in is pastel painting on canvas by Amelie Beaury-Saurel . With the women as the focus of the painting and her face the focal point, it is easy to see where the painting got its name. The bend over position of the women with smoke coming out of her mouth and a somber look on her faces provokes the sense of sadness and pensiveness. All the colors on the painting are muted and dull which only further provokes the feeling of the painting and the muse.
