In 1585, Pope Sixtus V declared Henry of Navarre a relapsed heretic and excommunicated him from the church. He also claimed Henry no longer King of Navarre -
Treaty of Nemours
In the Treaty of Nemours, Henry III was forced to capitulate the throne. It was signed on July 7, 1585. -
Second Edict against Huguenots
In October Henry III realized the treaty of Nemours was not being obeyed by them. All property owned by Protestants who owned or aided arms were forced to forfeiture, he also reduced the time for the Huguenots to leave Paris. -
Battle of Coutras
The battle of Coutras was fought on October 20, 1587 between Henry of Navarre and hte french king's Anne, Duke de Joyeuse. Henry of Navarre defeated them and won the battle. -
Spanish Armada
When the Spanish Armada was about to sail Henry of Guise had to make sure Henry III could not give aid to the queen, therefore, he entered the city in secret. The Spanish Armada did get aided anyways b Henry III by the gunpowder full ships. -
Henry of Guise
Henry of Guise continuously won battles against Henry III, starting by defeating the protestant Germans then Huguenots and the after marching for Paris. This forced Henry III to sign the Edict of Union in 1588. -
Edict of Union
The Edict of Union signed in 1588 required Henry III was forced to make Henry of Guise the lieutenant general of the kingdom and declared no heretic could claim the throne. Henry III arrested and assassinated many people from the League because of this humiliation. -
Henry III assassination
While under the aid of Henry of Navarre, Henry III was stabbed to death by Jaques Clement. After that Henry of Navarre was the only heir left to the throne, therefore, becoming Henry IV of France. -
Henry of Navarre
Henry of Navarre was the cousin of Henry III and protected him during the War of the Three Henrys. After Henry III assassination he became the king of France, Henry IV and converted to Catholicism a few years later. -
Protection of Henry III
When the Catholic League went after Henry III for siding with protestants, he went and hid behind Henry of Navarre. Both of them signed the Treaty of Tours that formed an alliance. The treaty was signed April 30,1589.
