    French Conquest
    During the early months of 1810 the Spanish were conquered by the French. Important cities in Spain were taken over, and fell into French rule.
  • The Conspiracy

    The Conspiracy
    Ignacio Allende, Josefa Ortiz, and Miguel Hidalgo along with rebels started a conspiracy to proclaim independence early in the 1810. The Spanish started to be suspiscious and investigated the problem.
  • Gun Arsenal

    Gun Arsenal
    After hearing the conspiraies the Spanish took action and ordered the arrest of the suspects that were involved. In the process they found an entire arsenal of guns for the revolt in Epigmenio Gonzalez's house.

    Hidalgo rang the church bells, called El Grito de Dolores. This grito took place in Dolores Hidalgo, Guanajuato stating the initiation of the movement.

    Hidalgo began his approach to Guanajuato with hundred of men, to fight Riaño. During the fight a soldier named Juan Jose Martinez "El Pipila" was able to be burn a gate entrance in San Miguel de Allende by burning pine cones and throwing them. He was acknowleged as a hero.

    Hidalgo had an army of eight thousand men in Mexico City. Hidalgo battled and proved that numbers can overpower, small well equipped, and disciplined professional Spanish army.
  • Hidalgo's Failure

    Hidalgo's Failure
    At the beginning of the year 1811 Hidalgo’s army and Allende fought against the royalist troops and the rebels had to retreat due to the explosion of the ammo wagon. They fled to the north to take refuge in Monclova, but the Spanish ambushed them and took them prisoners to then be executed.

    Hidalgo was taken to attend the Holy office of Inquisition and was tried for treason, then executed and his head cut off and displayed on a post in Guanajuato. Morelos took leadership of the rebels to replace Hidalgo.
  • Congress of Chilpancingo

    Congress of Chilpancingo
    In 1813 Morelos set up a meeting in Chilpancingo to discuss a new constitution to create a set of principles when Mexico became independent.
  • Constitution of Apatzingan

    Constitution of Apatzingan
    The insurgent forces promulgated the constitution already written after the Spanish started gaining territory from the insurgents. The Viceroy denied the Constitution and started persuing Jose Maria Morelos.
  • Consolidation

    Consolidation
    In 1815 Jose Maria Morelos was captured and escorted to Mexico City, and tried for treason. He was executed just like Hidalgo.
  • Consummation

    Consummation
    Guerrero and Agustin de Iturbide met to negotiate a treaty, presenting themselves with the hug of acatempan. Guerrero accepted the Plan de Iguala, but did not accept his forgiveness. therefore creating the Ejercito de las Tres Garantias.
  • Iturbide's Victory

    Iturbide's Victory
    Iturbide marched to Mexico City as a victor against the Spanish and was proclaimed emperor at the end of the Independence War. the Treaty of Cordoba was signed to establish a new independent civilization.
