Washington’s Proclamation of Neutrality
This policy stops the United States from Actually going to war and this policy was created by Jefferson and Hamilton approved of it. Washington decided to go along with this policy. When they did America Decided to park their boats so that they are not getting involved in the war. The policy that did this was the 1778 alliance, it made it so our nation was a neutral nation so we did not have to go to a war that we did not even prepare for. -
Jay Treaty
This treaty was not liked very much in America but it did do want it made to do and that was to keep the peace between America and Great Britain. This treaty was made to stop a war from happening. Jay went to try to get the American Sailors back from the Royal Navy and they said "no". This is one of the reasons for the war of 1812 because we could not get our American sailors back. -
Washington’s Farewell Address
The Farewell Address was written to get US allies to stop and completely steer away from the portions of the foreign world. this was to stop geographical sectionalism, political factionalism, and interfering with the foreign powers. they were worried that the people may try to take the ability to exercise the right to create laws and treaty's from the constitution. they used this address to protect us from foreign nations. -
Impressment of sailors
This was when the Royal Navy would board the American ships and take the deserters. A deserter was a person from Great Britain forced into the Royal Navy. But they would go to the American ships so they could work but with better conditions than the British Navy ships. But this all leads to where the British could get mad at America because we were taking their people away from their ships. Also the British were boarding the American ships. Which lead us to go into the War of 1812. -
Chesapeake-Leopard Affair
This Affair was Because the Royal Navy was trying to find the men that had abandoned them. The way to do that was by searching the American ships that come up. There was one seaman from American that stopped to let the British on but that did not settle too well back in America because this was the main reason for the war. The British would board American Sips and seize them until they gave up the Royal navy people and they did not have them the British still did it. -
Embargo Act 1807
The Embargo Act affected us so badly because we a neutral nation and that made France mad. they no only did to us but they did it to Britain also. They thought that it would not affect us that bad but it did and everyone went through economic hardships. Then later on they went to put another policy the Macon's Bill No. 2 which said that Britain and France need respect our Neutral rights, and if they did then we would stop all trade with other nations. This all leads us to actually declaring war. -
Tecumseh (1)
This was a Native chief that paired up with the British and he wanted to expand the land in the United States to give the Britsh more land. the way he wanted to do it was by expanding his native unity with the Native Americans. -
War of 1812 Begins
The war started because of the British not letting us trade, and expand our territory because they were worried that we would not be able to have them control our trade anymore. The United States took on one of the toughest naval bases and boats to take on. when they went to war it was a ton of soldiers. the Indian's could not protect the Louisiana purchase so it gave us the advantage to get our land back. -
War Hawks
They are a group of people in the legislature part of the government that pushed America to go to war. they said that it was time to get into the war and fight our way out of all the bad things they did to us. This was the reason for us going to the War of 1812 because this group put us into the war and now we were at war. They did this because in their mind nothing is resolved until there is a war and one side wins. -
Tecumseh (2)
This was a man who was against America. he went and joined the British force in Michigan. He played one of the main roles in defeating the American force. When he defeated them it was the Siege of Detroit which later leads him to join the British Major Henry Proctor's war in Ohio which he fought Harrison and his troops. He leads the troops to wars until he dies while fighting in the war of 1812. -
Hartford Convention
This was a secret meeting of the federalist Delegates that come from Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont. this convention leads to the calling of our federal government to help and protect New England from the horrible trade economy that they created. The reason they were there was that they were trying to go against James Madison's decision on the War of 1812 and the Mercantile policies. -
Treaty of Ghent
This treaty was the treaty that ended the War of 1812 and while they were all there they said that we released all conquered territory back to the owners. They also set a boundary from America to Canada. this was an ending solution to the war because they needed something to help them stop. The reason why is because they were not even ready for war. -
Battle of New Orleans
This battle was known as the best land victory war during the war. The troops were lead by the future president of the United States Andrew Jackson. The purpose of the battle was to get the land that connected the United States to Louisiana. This was the last encounter that the United States and Great Britain went to war. During the war, the British went to try and take the ports but they could not because they were not as well suited as the Americans. He was known as a national hero.
