As president madison hoped to keep the u.s out of war.Americans thought he was to timid.They argued that the u.s should stand up to native americans and forein countries.This is exacally what they did.By then they were at war. -

Madison gave in to the war fever.On june 18,1812 he asked congress to declare war on britain.The house voted 79 to 49 in favor of war.the senet voted 19 to 13.Soon americans dicovered that declaring war was much easier than winning it. -
