Vladek meets Anja, who he falls in love with and eventually marries her. -

Vladek marries the love of his life, Anja. -

WWII begins. The Nazis are the clear enemy with their hatred for Jewish people. -

Vladek sees a Nazi flag with a swastika on it. Vladek doesn't know what it means but will soon know. -
1939
Vladek is drafted to fight in the war in hopes that they can take down the Nazis. -

Vladek is taken as a prisoner of war by the Nazis after being captured. -
1939
Vladek has a dream where he sees his dead grandfather dressed up as a rabbi. His grandfather tells him he will be freed on Parsha Truma. -
1940
Vladek is freed on Parsha Truma, just as his grandfather said in his dream. -
1943
Vladek sends Richieu with Tosha to have Richieu escape the ghetto and survive. Vladek later finds out Richieu died because Tosha poisoned them. She would have rather done that than suffer what the Nazis would do. -
1943
Vladek and Anja are taken by the Nazis to concentration camps. Vladek gets sent to Auschwitz, while Anja is sent to a different concentration camp. -
1944
Vladek is taken under the wing of his Kapo. The Kapo helps Vladek out but on the condition that Vladek helps him learn English. Vladek is given a better life in the camps than any of the other prisoners. -
1944
Vladek gets the job of being a tinman. This was one of the better jobs he could've gotten because it requires skill. This provided him with better security. -
1945
Vladek and other Jewish prisoners are moved onto a train. The train was packed with people and made it incredibly difficult to survive. Vladek survives due to his intelligence by making a hammock in one of the corners of the train. -
1945
Vladek finally escapes the camps and Nazi rule. Reuniting with Anja in Sosnowiec. -
1948
Art Spiegelman is born, becoming Vladek's second son. Without Art, no one would ever hear of Vladek's story.
