    7:15 a.m.
    The first 911 call is received reporting shots fired in West Ambler Johnson Hall. Upon arrival, the first responding officers found a male and a female student shot to death on the 4th floor of the dormitory. Based on the initial interviews conducted by police at West Ambler Johnson Hall, police believe that the shooting is an isolated incidence of domestic violence, and they do not initiate any campus-wide security measures.

    9:01 a.m.
    Within the next several hours, Cho leaves the Virginia Tech campus and is seen on video mailing a package at a nearby post office. The package is sent to NBC news and contains pictures, digital video files, and documents relating to the shooting and Cho’s hatred for wealthy people.
  • 9:26 a.m.

    9:26 a.m.
    After interviewing the female victim’s boyfriend at nearby Radford University, Virginia Tech authorities issue a mass email to students and staff, warning about potential danger related to the initial 7:15 shooting.
  • 9:45 a.m.

    9:45 a.m.
    Cho crosses the Virginia Tech campus and enters Norris Hall, a science and engineering classroom building located approximately 15 minutes walking distance from West Ambler Johnson Hall. Cho chains the exterior doors to the building shut and the police began receiving 911 calls about shots being fired in Norris Hall. During the next 9 minutes, Cho kills 30 students and faculty, before killing himself.
  • 9:50 a.m.

    9:50 a.m.
    A second mass email is sent by Virginia Tech officials reporting that a gunman is loose on the campus.
  • 9:55 a.m.

    9:55 a.m.
    The third and final mass email is sent by Virginia Tech officials reporting the shooting in Norris Hall and advising that the gunman was in custody.
