Virginia General Assembly Declaration
The Virginia Slave Codes came to be a manual of sorts for all to reference in managing slaves. To better distinguish slaves from everyone else and to cement the slaves position in the colonies, The Virginia Slave Codes were created. These codes proved to be very harsh for slaves and initiated slave uprisings. -
The Aftermath of the French and Indiana War
The Seven Years’ War ended with the signing of the treaties of Hubertusburg and Paris in February 1763. In the Treaty of Paris, France lost all claims to Canada and gave Louisiana to Spain, while Britain received Spanish Florida, Upper Canada, and various French holdings overseas. The treaty ensured the colonial and maritime supremacy of Britain and strengthened the 13 American colonies by removing their European rivals to the north and the south. -
Stamp act and Quartering Act
The Quartering Act required the colonies to provide barracks and supplies to British troops. The Stamp Act direct tax on the American Colonies this act enacted to raise money. The colonist disputed the legality of the Act because they thought it seemed to be a violation of the Bill of Rights. With The Stamp Act they protested by sending messages to The Parliament refusing to buy stamps, and attacked tax collectors. -
The Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party was in protest of the British Parliament’s Tea Act of 1773, a bill designed to save the faltering East India Company by greatly lowering its tea tax and granting it a virtual monopoly on the American tea trade. The low tax allowed the East India Company to undercut even tea smuggled into America by Dutch. In effect, the cost of British tea became high, and, in response, American colonists began a lucrative industry of smuggling tea from the Dutch and other European markets. -
