took up painting in earnest
after following his beloved brother theo's suggestion.

the brothers shared a house on monmartre.
- there he met the painters Edgar Degas, Camille Pissarro, Bernard, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec and Paul Gauguin.

having a nervous temperament, van gogh ended up cutting a portion of his own ear lobe off.
- he was sent to the asylum in Saint-Remy suffering with depression.
- while there, he painted some 150 paintings, one of which is ''starry night''. -
vincent left the clinic and went to a psysician
after leaving the asylum, vincent went to the physician Paul Gachet, in Auvers-sur-Oise near Paris, where he was closer to Theo, who had recently married.

his depression had aggravated and that's why it is believed that vincent shot himself in the chest, at the age of 37. he died two days later. - his last words were; ''the sadness will last forever''.
