James Watt improved on the steam engine
-
Period: to
POWER
Thomas Savery patented the first crude steam engine in 1698. Thomas Newcomen improved on this design. However, it wasn't until James Watt & Matthew boulton improved on the steam engine in the second half of the 18th century that it became a truly viable piece of machinery that helped start the Industrial Revolution. -
James Watt & Matthew Boulton created the rotative engine
(Wheel turning engine) -
Double acting engine
The steam drove the piston both & down, this engine produced the powerfuk rotary motion needed to drive machinery -
By this time there were about 2500 steam engines operating in the country
They were put up to all used -
R.Trevithick devised a more powerful highpressure engine
(After this came the spectaclar railway engine)
