    The Chinese Exclusion Act was a law that barred all people of that ethnicity from entering America, and was the first of it's kind to ever be put into action. Link text
  • Americanization

    Americanization
    Americanization was the belief and practice of turning foreigners into normal, acclimated American Citizens. After some time though, people started to think and realize there was no set definition for what or who an American should be. Link text

    In the 18th and 19th centuries the U.S. aggressively expanded it's territory, and therefore expanding it's influence all across the globe. Link text
  • Separate But Equal

    Separate But Equal
    Separate but Equal was an idea in the 1950s-1960s that as long as people were equal in all aspects, they could be separated and it would not hinder their civil rights. But this was not the case, because in every real case of this "Separate but Equal" mindset, African American people were treated worse than Caucasian people. Link text

    Sinking the Lusitania
    The sinking of the Lusitania marked the turning of public opinion against Germany, and played a large part in the U.S.'s involvement in World War 1. A German U-boat sank the Lusitania on it's was to Liverpool, England, and killed 1,100 people, 120 of which were Americans. Link text

    Stock Market Crash
    The tipping point of the Great Depression was the stock market crash, when investors traded 16 million bonds in one day. It is remembered as Black Thursday. Link text
  • The Election of FDR

    The Election of FDR
    Franklin Delano Roosevelt was elected after Herbert Hoover's presidency, who was the President during the start of the Great Depression. FDR's campaign promised America a "New Deal." Link text
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    Pearl Harbor was a massive attack on the U.S. naval base stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii. 300 planes, 20 American naval vessels, and 2,000 lives were lost in the kamikaze bombing from Japan. This event was the cause of the U.S. going to war with Japan. Link text

    D-Day was the beginning of "Operation Overlord", which lasted for 3 months, and included 156,000 American, Canadian, and British troops. It was the biggest amphibious assault in history. Link text

    First Atomic Bomb Drop on Hiroshima
    The first ever atomic bomb to be dropped was over Hiroshima. 70,000 Japanese citizens were vaporized instantly, and over 100,000 more died in the years that passed of radiation poisoning. Link text

    Non-Violence is an idea that has been around since the beginning of time, but was really brought into the world permanently in the for of the United Nations. Negotiating and maintaining peace and Non-Violence is their biggest duty. Link text

    The Vietnam War was the longest war in history, and was one that largely failed. It was fought by North Vietnam and the Viet Cong, who were Communists, and South Vietnam and the United States. Link text

    The March on Washington was a massive political rally 200,000 people strong, protesting about freedom and jobs for all. This was a pivotal moment in the Civil Rights movement, and is where Martin Luther King gave his "I Have a Dream" speech. Link text

    The National Organization for Women (NOW) is an organization founded in 1966, and who's mission is equal rights for women all around the world. Link text
  • Soviet Union Collapse

    Soviet Union Collapse
    The Soviet Union finally collapsed in 1991, when 11 of the Union's Republics met and decided to stop being a part of the Soviet Union. This was largely due to the leader of the USSR at the time, Mikhail Gorbachev, who made many news rules in his time as leader. Link text

    NAFTA stands for the North American Free Trade Agreement, and is a Trade Pact between the U.S., Canada, and Mexico that will last for 15 years. It gets rid of tariffs on the trade of goods and services between those 3 countries. Link text
