    The California gold rush was a time where gold was first found in California. a misconception that it brought everyone together when in reality races thought they were better than other races.

    The Civil War started due to the South wanting to be its own country. The South also wanted to continue slavery as the North wanted to Abolish slavery. The North won the Civil War and made slavery illegal in the United Stated.
  • Reconstruction Era

    Reconstruction Era
    The Reconstruction Era took place right after the American Civil War. It gave African American citizens the same human rights as Whites. Congress also passed the 13th amendment to abolish slavery, the 14th and 15th amendment as well.

    In 1870 the gilded age started and it was a time where rich people were very corrupt and did things like make objects that weren't valuable look valuable by putting tiny pieces of gold on it.

    In the late 1800s in Chicago Illinois a riot was caused due to the police brutality. Many police were killed and injured due to having a bomb thrown at them.

    With workers potentially getting their wages cut they decided to go on strike. The result did not end well for the workers that went on strike. With steel workers not working the ceo Henry Clay Frick and Andrew Carnegie got angry called in the national guard. The national guard ended the strike because their either killed or brutally injured the steel workers, or in prisoned.

    During the Progressive Era the 19th amendment was passed. The 19th amendment granted women the right to vote. The Progressive Era also helped women get jobs with better working conditions. It basically had a goal to end women suffrage

    The Spanish American War started because Yellow journalist manipulated people by making up lies and exaggerating things, and they bribed people into believing something that would later put the United States into a war with Spain.
  • World War I

    World War I
    World War I started when Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated. The soilders fighting in the war had a hard time because there was a lot of chronic diseases such as trench foot, trench fever, lice outbreaks which killed a huge population of people. The war went on for 4 years. The war ended Novemvber 11, 1918. Surviving soldiers of the war had PTSD and could not go back to a normal life.

    Before the Great Depression the Stock Market crashed due to a huge drop in stock prices on the stock market. What made things worse were investors could not withdraw their money, and a lot of people withdrew their funds from the bank, so the bank did not have any money.

    After the stock market crash led to the start of the Great Depression of 1929. During the Great Depression unemployment, homelessness, and lack of food supplies was at an all time high. The Great Depression lasted for 10 years.
  • Dust Bowl

    Dust Bowl
    The dust Bowl lasted for almost a decade. The dust storm was so bad that it killed adults and children on direct contact by suffocating and smothering them. It was so bad people couldn't go outside and had to quarantine. They couldn't go out and buy food, or supplies, and had to grow their own food.

    On November 28, 1932 was the election between Hebert Hoover and Franklin D Roosevelt. Franklin D Roosevelt won the election and became president of the United States.

    With Adolf Hitler and the Germans invading Poland, Great Britain and France declared war on Germany. The US didn't get involved into the War until the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941. On September 2, 1945 World War 2 ended with the allied powers winning the war.

    After world War II and the beginning of the post war period. American society has changed as a culture, the United States became one of the richest countries in the world, more job opportunities, and more. African Americans were still not treated equally.

    The birth rate had increased as there was a rapid increase in babies being born in the span of 1945 - 1960. This was also a major increase in the human population as a whole.

    Malcolm X fiery speech
    In Malcolm X's Fiery speech he addressed the police brutality and how we as black people were exploited, oppressed, denied our civil and human rights and coming together was the only way to stop it. He also explained that the root of it was racist white people who owned slaves that taught black people to hate themselves how we look, the color of our skin, the shape of our nose, our hair, and more.
  • Fannie Lou Hamer's testimony

    Fannie Lou Hamer was a share cropper who was evicted from her plantation came to symbolize the Mississippi movement. In her testimony she explained how 18 of her people traveled to the court house to register to become first class citizens and were met by policemen who arrested her and sent her to jail and while she was in jail where she was abused, told her she would wish that she was dead, and other things.
