    It has been estimated that Hitler stole over 750,000 artworks during the war. The years between 1933 and 1945 are a black hole in the art community, with thousands of pieces of art changing hands and going missing. During World War II, the Nazis went on a rampage destroying and stealing European art. Why: I wanted to know more about the art from the war and I came across this.

    August 2, 1934 German President Paul Von Hindenburg dies. With the support of the German armed forces, Hitler becomes President of Germany. Hitler becomes the absolute dictator of Germany; there are no legal or constitutional limits to his authority.
    Why: I think it's important to know when Hitler became leader of Germany.

    Genetics Doctor Josef Mengele
    Melange received doctorates in anthropology and medicine from Munich University and began a career as a researcher. He joined the Nazi Party in 1937 and the SS in 1938. Initially assigned as a battalion medical officer at the start of World War II.
    Why: I remembered reading something about the genetics doctor from last year, and i wanted to know more.

    Great Britain and France declare war on Germany
    France and Britain declared war on Germany on September 3, 1939 in response to Germany's invasion of Poland on September 1 of the same year. France and Britain were allies, and they combined with many other allied countries to defeat Germany. Why: All wars play an important part in history.

    John Steinbeck was an author of 27 books including 16 novels. Some books are "To a God Unknown" published in 1933, "The Dubious Battle" published in 1936, "Of Mice and Men" published in 1937, and "The Grapes of Wrath" published in 1939.
    Why: I choose John Steinbeck because he seemed like an interesting author.

    Explosion of SS Patria
    On November 25, 1940 a bomb was placed on the SS Patria in attempt to prevent it leaving. When the bomb exploded, it proved to be more powerful than needed to simply disable the old ship and sunk within fifteen-minutes. It’s said that two-hundred and sixty-seven people lost their lives, including fifty of the British crew. Why: It was more powerful then needed.

    George Orwell was an author and wrote many books between 1933 and 1941 some books he wrote was "Down and Out in Paris and London" published in 1933, "Burmese Days" published in 1934, and "Homage to Catalonia" published in 1938.
    Why: I read a book by George Orwell and I liked it and I knew he was an author from the 1930's.

    Winston Churchill and President FDR meet in Casablanca, Morocco. To discuss strategy and study the next phase of the war. Top priority was given to destroying German U-boat patrols in the Atlantic and launching combined bombing missions.

    I choose this topic because, it seemed like an easy topic to do.

    African American men registered for the draft, and African America women volunteered in large numbers. They experienced discrimination and segregation but met the challenge and persevered. 167,000 served in the Navy, 904,000 served in the Army, 17,000 served in the Marine Corps, and almost 5,000 served in the Coast Guard. In 1945 Fredrick C. Branch became the 1st African American U.S. Marine Corps Officer.
    I chose this topic because African Americans were just as important in WW2 as whites were.

    Rationing was big during WWII because the men fighting in the war needed more supplies such as food and gas, for the air craft.
  • War Bonds

    War Bonds
    WWII was very expensive almost $300 billion was spent on the attack against the axis, and supplies for our allies. You purchased a $25 War Bond for $18.75, and the money made would go to supplies and everything that the military needed.
    I chose this topic because War Bonds were important during the war to help our military.
