Election of 1900
In the 1900 Presidential Election, William McKinley represented the republican party and William Jennings Bryan represented the Democratic Party. William McKinley won the Election and served as President with Theodore Roosevelt as his Vice President. -
Theodore Roosevelt becomes President
On September 6, 1901, President McKinley was shot and killed by Leon Czolgosz. Upon his death, Vice President Theodore roosevelt was inaugurated into office on September 14, 1901. -
Roosevelt Corollary to Monroe Doctrine
The Roosevelt Corollary to Monroe Doctrine was an addition to the Monroe Doctrine articulated by President Theodore Roosevelt in his State of the Union address in 1904 after the Venezuela Crisis
of 1902-1903. It asserted that the US wished to promote stable, prosperous states in Latin America that could live up to their political and financial obligations. -
Election of Woodrow Wilson
IN the Election of 1912, Democratic representative Woodrow Wilson, ran against the Progressive Party representative, Theodore Roosevelt. Wilson won in a landslide and was inaugurated on March 4, 1913. -
World War I Begins
On June 28, 1914, Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and his wife were assassinated, sparking the beginning of World War I. After the assassination, Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia and the war hard begun. -
United States enters World War One
While the United States attempted to stay neutral, Germany's navy used tactics that lead the United States to join the war. The German U-Boats sank the Lusitania on May 7, 1915, killing 125 US Citizens. Then in January of 1917, the Germans sent the Zimmerman Telegram asking for Mexico's help invading the US. As a result of these tactics, the United States declared War on Germany and joined the allied powers. -
World War 1 Ends
In November of 1918, Germany surrendered and the fighting stopped while peace was negotiated. On June 28 1919, Germany and the Allied Nations signed the Treaty of Versailles, formally ending the Great War. -
Eighteenth Amendment
The Eighteenth Amendment established the prohibition of "intoxicating liquor" in the US. It states, "After one year from the ratification of this article the manufacture, sale, or transportation of intoxicating liquors within, the importation thereof into, or the exportation thereof from the United States and all territory subject to the jurisdiction thereof for beverage purposes is hereby prohibited." -
Nineteenth Amendment
The Nineteenth Amendment gave women the right to vote. It states, "The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex."
