Farmers were greatly impacted by the stock market crash. This was due to the fact that no one that was purchasing their goods had the funds to continue to do so. This is a main event that lead into the economic shutdown we would later know as the Great Depression. -
Farm Credit Act
In April 1933, a foreclosure judge was abducted by an angry mob made of American Farmers that beat him close to death. They were losing their livelihoods due to not being able to afford monthly payments to keep farms. They were pulling together and attempting to bail each other out financially but yet that wasn’t enough and the banks were repossessing farms. This lead to the Farm Credit Act which refinance mortgages that may have gone unpaid this also allowed farmers to buy back what was lost. -

The first farm bill that was created in order to provide restoration of the agricultural success during the great depression. This bill offered farmers money in order to produce less of certain crops (wheat, cotton, corn, tobacco, and rice.) in order to increased the price of the goods being produced. Farmers were realistically paid in order to produce less goods. Farmers that agreed to this destroyed just about a million acres of their own land that was already planted with crops. -

Hemp Production
One of the new additions to the 2018 farm bill was to remove hemp from the controlled substance list. Allowing the USA to get in on an almost trillion dollar market for hemp products including fibers for yarn, oils for cooking, seeds, soaps, shampoos, and cosmetics. Canada is currently our largest supplier supplying the USA with roughly 90% of its hemp products. One of the other potential mark ups for hemp products are CBD oils which can aid different medical conditions like epilepsy. -
