Unit 5 Industrial Revolution Final Project

  • Water frame

    Water frame
The Water frame was used to mass produce strong yarn and reduced the need to spin cotton by hand. The way it worked was by using water to turn a water wheel which then that energy which will moving rollers thinned out the cotton, then its rotating spindles twisted it into yarn. The way this impacted society was that it made it faster to make strong yarn. It also made it so every person can do it and don't need to do it by hand with takes long to learn.
  • The Watt Steam Engine

    The Watt Steam Engine
The Watt Steam Engine was an invention that made energy. It made energy by heating water which which becomes steam and then the steam pushed a piston around to create energy. The way the Watt Steam Engine impacted society was by making energy for water to power factories and mills. The steam engine also made it esay for people to work, live, and do things knowing that there was lots of water.
  • The Power Loom

    The Power Loom
The Power Loom was an invention that made it easier and faster to weave cloth immensely. The way the power loom worked was by using a system of pulleys, gears, and belts to connect the power source. One way that the power loom impacted society is that everyone can now weave cloth because you don't have to be a skilled handworker. Another way it impacted society was by making weaving cloth faster and cheaper because it can be powered by anyone who can just press a button.
  • The Cotton Gin

    The Cotton Gin
The Cotton Gin was an invention that broke up the sticky seeds from the fibers in short-staple cotton. This was done by the cotton gin having teeth mounted on the rotating cylinder which pulled cotton fiber through small grates to separate the seeds. This invention made it easy for people to separate the seeds for the cotton which saved time and they could sell more of it. This invention is still used today but at a bigger scale today cotton gin can make up to 75 pounds each in a day.
  • Gas Street lamp

    Gas Street lamp
The Gas street lamp was an artificial light that was put on the street for people to see when it's night. The gas street light works by combustion of a fuel gas which causes it to light up. One way that the gas street lamp impacted society was by increasing public safety and reducing crime. The street lamp is also used today to help people from crashing into one another, it also made it so that we make better lights more powerful lights.
  • Stephenson's Rocket

    Stephenson's Rocket
The Stephenson's Rocket was the first locomotive to complete the trials and it will go about 12 mph and the top speed of it was 30 mph. This locomotive worked by a multi-tubular boiler design which boiled water in the steam to power the locomotive but I think what made it different from other locomotives is that it had 25 copper fire tubes and was the first to have a firebox. The way this locomotive impacted society was by being able to take things from place to place fast. It made the train.
  • The Steam Hammer

    The Steam Hammer
The Steam Hammer was used to shape forgings which made it faster to make tools. It worked by using steam to lift the hammer which then dropped on the metal to shape it. This impacted society by being able to make tools faster shape them in different ways and make new tools. This is also used today by my blacksmith to make tools or other things with iron or steel
  • The Electrical Telegraph

    The Electrical Telegraph
The Electrical Telegraph was used to send messages which were in mores code and receive them anywhere in just minutes. This works by transmitting electrical signals over wires which can be set up anywhere. The way this impacted society is by knowing to be able to talk to someone from far away and not have to send a letter that can take up to 3 weeks to get to them. A way that this can be shown today is by being able to talk to someone from another country.
  • Mass Steel Production

    Mass Steel Production
Mass Steel Production was used to make steel faster more reliable and make it cheaper. The way this worked was that they filled it up with pig iron and removed impurities from the iron by oxidation with air being blown through the molten iron. The way this impacted society was that it made steel stronger and made it cheaper to make. It also made a lot of steel which was used to make a lot of skyscrapers and things that are made from steel.
  • The Assembly Line

    The Assembly Line
The Assembly Line was a process in which is a process in which a product is broken up into steps that are completed in a set sequence. It works by having each person do one step of the product like putting a door on a car that guy's only job is to put doors on cars. The way this impacted our society was that it made it easy to mass-produce things which lowered the costs of goods. The way that this is used today is by cars and electronics being mass-produced.
