The Mountain men explored and discovered much of the Rockies.
As they explored they created trails for settlers and trading.
Mountain men also created important paths that lead to Wyoming, the Great Salt Lake in Utah, and California. -
Americans migrate to Texas
Mexico allows Americans to Settle in Texas.
However Americans must become Mexican citizens, become Roman Catholics, and live by the Mexican Constitution.
Mexico hoped that by allowing Americans to come into Mexico with these restrictions, that the American immigrants may become a valuable economical asset. -
Expansion Debate
The Debate on this matter opened up the old and all too common issue of pinning the Northern and Southern states against each other.
The issue was that if Texas were to be allowed into the Union it would introduce another slave state, throwing off the perfect balance that the government had worked so hard to maintain.

Mormons Move West
The Mormons were seeking religious refuge from the corrupt and hostile society.
They created the colony of New Zion.
After the territory passed from Mexican governments control to Americas control the Mormons had to except federal rule. -
Forth-Niners Rush to California
The California gold rush increased the number of Americans migrating to California; they traveled by both land and sea to seek their fortune.
The gold rush also increased the number of immigrants that were entering California.
At first placer mining was the most common way to mine for gold, however as the time went on and few found gold new ways of mining were employed such as hydraulic mining, and hard rock mining.
