    President Harrison sends an ultimatum for invasion to Chile where several U.S. sailors were stabbed or beaten. The ultimatum demanded a public apology from the Chilean government for being remiss in their duties to protect the sailors and having some of their men attack the American sailors
  • Puerto Rico: Military Invasion and Territorial acquistion

    U.S strategic leader, Captain Alfred Thayer Mahan created a strategy that would, in the process, create a large powerful navy. He wanted to take control of the colonies in the Carribean. Spanish American War started in late april of that year. The U.S's objectives were to seize the colonies of Puerto Rico and Cuba. Under command of Capt. Ángel Rivero Méndez and spanish forces had fired at the US forces and their leader Capt. William C. Wise at San Juan.

    European imperialist powers had set up spheres of influence in China. After the U.S. emerged victorious from the Spanish-American War and gained the territory of the Philippines, the U.S. wanted access to the Chinese market. John Hay then proposed the Open Door policy where all nations would have trading rights in all parts of China and recognize Chinese territorial integrity

    The United States ordered two invasions on Mexico. The first one was a plan to invade Veracruz in 1914. The second time was also known as the "Punitive Expedition". During the second time, the U.S invasion was led by General John J. Perishing. At first, President Wilson did not want to send any soldiers into Mexico. But there was a lot of pressure from the press. Wilson wanted to get rid of the government run by General Victoriano Huerta. This could only be done by seizing Veracruz.
