They attacked because they claimed that Chinese soldiers had sabotaged the railway. China appealed to the League of Nations, but am assembly didn't happen until 17 months later.

    Surprise military strike by the Japanese Navy Air Service that brought the United States into the war. Pearl Harbor was bombed because the Japanese did not want the Pacific Fleet to interfere with Japan trying to conquer Southeast Asia. The day after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, President Franklin D Roosevelt announced that the United States would join the war.

    British bombers raid Hamburg, Germany, by night in Operation Gomorrah, while Americans bomb it by day in its own “Blitz Week.”The British attacked because Germany had killed 167 civilians during bombing raids earlier that month. Hitler refused to visit the cities because they showed the end of the war was coming.

    The Battle of the Bulge was the last major German offensive campaign, and the largest battle fought on the Western Front in Europe on the Western Front during World War II.The battle was an attempt to push the Allied powers to Belgium. At the end of the battle the Germans lost too many troops and supplies and it was the end of the German Army.

    The US Marine Corps landed on the island of Iwo Jima and captured it. The Battle of Iwo Jima happened because the US needed a base near the Japanese Coast. The air fields in Iwo Jima were shut down and the Japanese couldn't scout fr Allied bombers anymore.

    The first major concentration camp to be liberated was Majdanek. The liberation of these camps happened because the Allies found the camps when they were moving across Europe. After the liberation of Auschwitz, the Allies found that they had a spy on the island Sylt and captured him after his wife's confession.
