    Rutherford Hayes is sworn in as the president of the United States. He is the 19th president.

  • President James Garfield is Assassinated

    President James Garfield is assassinated by Charles Guiteau. Guiteau shoots Garfield in the back and leaves him to die.

  • Interstate Commerce Act

    The Interstate Commerce Act is made and is created in hopes of regulating and setting boundaries for railroads.

  • Plessy v. Fergunson

    Plessy v. Fergunson, a supreme court case, is pursued and fought out to the product of segregation laws being upheld.

  • U.S. Declares War

    The United States declares war on Spain. The Spanish-American War is fought out by approximately 300,00 men.

  • U.S. Annexes Hawaii

    McKinley signs a treaty and annexes Hawaii to become a part of territory of the U.S.
