    Reconstruction Era
    14th Amendment is adopted on July 9, 1868 and it addressed citizenship rights and equal protection of the laws. The Jim Crow Laws were passed during 1865-1876 and they adopted segregation.

    The Confederate army commander Robert E. Lee surrendered to Ulysses Grant, the Union army commander.

    The U.S wanted more land and power, so they caused a war agaisn the Spanish and they won to gain areas like New Mexico and Texas. America's annexation of Hawaii in 1898 extended U.S. territory into the Pacific and highlighted resulted from economic integration and the rise of the United States as a Pacific power. The Panana Canal was officially opened in 1914.

    In late June 1914, Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was assassinated by a Serbian nationalist in Sarajevo, Bosnia. An escalation of threats and mobilization orders followed the incident, leading by mid-August to the outbreak of World War I, which pitted Germany, Austria-Hungary and the Ottoman Empire (the so-called Central Powers) against Great Britain, France, Russia, Italy and Japan (the Allied Powers). The Allies were joined after 1917 by the United States.

    The 1920s were an age of dramatic social and political change. For the first time, more Americans lived in cities than on farms. Young women started wearing flappers to show more skin. Prohibition in the United States was a national ban on the sale, production, and transportation of alcohol, in place from 1920 to 1933

    People had a lot of unemployment problems.Peoplepanickedand withdrew money. Banks foreclosed and businesses laid off workers or workers went bankrupt. Dust storms destoyed crops, so farmers couldn't pay for their debt and banks foreclosed on small farmers.

    World War 2 was triggered by the Pearl Harbor attack by Japan on the U.S on. New weapons and technologies were made (aircrafts, bombs). The U.S dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan on August 6, 1045. Then on August 9, three days later, the U.S dropped anther atomic bomb on Nagasaki, Japan.

    The attack on Pearl Harbor was a surprise military strike conducted by the Imperial Japanese Navy against the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on the morning of December 7, 1941 (December 8 in Japan). The attack led to the United States' entry into World War II.

    The U.S and Russia were at war against each other to see who had more power over the world. The U.S were the capitalist superpower and Russia was the communist superpower. Both countries were trying to go into space first. Cuba and Russia also threatened to use nuclear missiles against the U.S.

    The Vietnam War started was the longest war in United States history. The war started around November, 1st 1955 and ended on April 30, 1975. The Vietnamese army won the conflict with the withdrawal of the American forces.

    The Persian Gulf War was an armed conflict that took place between Iraq and a coalition of nations as a result of Iraq's invasion of Kuwait on August 2, 1990. The Iraqi Saddam Hussein ordered the invasion and occupation of neighboring Kuwait.
