    The Industrial Revolution was a time from having hand production methods to having machines create processes for our products like iron and chemical manufacturing. This began a gradual growth in the economy that affected others in their daily lives. The Industrial Revolution began in England in earlier years and then it began in the U.S and Western Hemisphere.

    This was a court house where General Robert E. Lee and the Confederates surrendered to Ulysses S. Grant and the Union. A treaty was signed there and it ended the Civil War.

    Reconstruction
    The Reconstruction Era is when the United States was trying to reconstruct the states and their societies. Also, Abe Lincoln wanted to bring the Southern states back to normal.
  • Imperialism

    Imperialism
    Imperialism in the United States from 1898 to 1914 had the Spanish-American War, aquisition of Hawaii, and the creation of the Panama Canal. The Spanish-American War secured the U.S as a Pacific power, and it produced a peace treaty with Spain that relinquished claims on Cuba, and this conflict also led to the annexation of Hawaii to the U.S, which was independant before. During this era, the Panama Canal was created to convey goods in an easier way from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean.

    World War I
    The United States entered World War I in 1917, because of the German u-boats that attacked U.S ships. Those U.S ships traded goods to those in Europe that were involved in the war. These attacks from the Germans, like the attack on the Lusitania in 1915, caused Woodrow Wilson to declare war. The approval was given four days later. When the war ended in 1918, Woodrow Wilson wanted peace in 1917 between the nations based on a League of Nations, but our congress wanted to be isolate.

    Prohibition/Roaring 20's
    The Prohibition Era began from the ratification of the 18th amendment to the U.S Constitution. This ratification banned the manufacture, transportation, and sale of alcohol in the 1920's. The "Roaring 20's" was a time of political and social change. More people lived in the cities and America's wealth doubled. These people, who became accustomed to different clothes and slang, may have held speakeasies, which were secret bars because of the prohibition.

    The Great Depression and the New Deal
    On October 24, 1929, the stock market crashed as its shares fell sharply, and these shares left financial ruin and panic. This began a lon-term effect on the economy that forced banks to fail and businesses to fail. These closing businesses caused people millions of people in the U.S to lose their jobs. In 193, Franklin Roosevelt came into office as President and restored dignity and prosperity over the next 8 years to the people by instituting projects and programs.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    Japan shocked the country when they bombed the naval base Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. This was the reason for us to enter World War II, and on December 8 the country listened to the Day of Infamy speech on their radios by Franklin Roosevelt. That same day, we declared war on Japan, but on December 11 we declared war on Germany. Those Japanese airplanes afflicted 3,500 men through two waves for 2 hours.

    The United States's involvement began after the attack on Pearl Harbor from Japanese airplanes. We then were at war with Japan, Germany, and Italy, and we aided the British, Soviet Union and China during the first two years. After America had to win the Pacific Ocean over Japan, they finally invaded Germany and Italy with their allies.

    The Cold War
    The Cold War was given the name to the developed relationship between the USSR and the US. Neither country trusted the other after World War 2. Both were trying to dominate international affairs, but neither actually fought another but raher expressed their beliefs. The reason for not acting was the risk of extreme loss, because the US had atomic bombs and the USSR had a vast army.
  • The Korean War

    The Korean War
    The Korean Peninsula was divided into two halves at the end of World War 2. The north of Korea was backed by the Soviet Union, and the south was backed by the US. A parallel was made between the communist and anti-communist nations. War broke out at the parallel between communism in the north and anti-communism in the south, but the US withdrew troops in 1948, because they thought it was out of their military defense.
  • The Vietnam War

    The Vietnam War
    The US became involved because they wanted to proclude a communist takeover in South Vietnam against North Vietnam. Also, the US government viewed it as their attempt to stop the spread of communism. We dispatched troops in 1965 which was 10 years after the conflict began. After or during the year 1968, the US was trying to withdraw from the war and they did eventually on August 15 1973.
  • The Gulf War

    The Gulf War
    The army of Iraq invaded Kuwait, Iraq's small neighboring country, because their leader Saddam Hussein accused that country of having weapons of mass destruction. George Bush defended Kuwait, because they were defenseless and had a large production of oil. Bush convinced world leaders to establish a trade embargo on Iraq, but it turned out that the US had assembled a massive armed force of many countries as plan "B". Plan "B" became an aerial assault on Iraq and lasted 100 hours in a Iraq loss.
  • Operation Enduring Freedom

    Operation Enduring Freedom
    This is the term for the War in Afghanistan. The OEF, in suffix, was announced by Bush in response to the 9/11 attacks on the US. The OEF demanded: the capture of Al-Qaeda leaders, the destruction of terrorist training camps and infrastructure within Afghanistan, and the termination of terrorist activities in Afghanistan.

    9/11
    On this day, four passenger airliners were hijacked by 19 Al-Qaeda terrorists so that they could be flown into buildings as suicide attacks on the US. Two of the four were flown each into the Twin Towers or World Trade Center in New York City. Another was flown into the west side of the Pentagon. The fourth was on it's way to Washington D.C, but crashed in a field in Pennsylvania after it's passengers tried to overcome the hijackers.
  • Invasion of Iraq

    Invasion of Iraq
    The United States invaded Iraq, which led to the Iraq War. Later this war concluded to the U.S capturing the Iraqui capitol of Baghdad.
  • Operation Iraqi Freedom

    Operation Iraqi Freedom
    This is also known as the Iraq War which began when the U.S invaded Iraq and was followed by a long phase of fighting. It was started because the U.S. and U.K accused Iraq of having weapons of mass destruction, which was a threat to their security. Investigation went into hand and they found chemical weapons. U.S. completed withdrawl from Iraq in Deceber 2011.
