    The statement declared by the thirteen original colonies that the US would have independence from the British Empire.
  • Monroe Doctrine

    Monroe Doctrine
    US foreign policy that stated that European nations that tried to involve themselves with North or South American states would be seen as acts of aggression.
  • Roosevelt Corollary

    Roosevelt Corollary
    Addition to the Monroe Doctrine saying that the US can intervene in conflicts between European countries and Latin American countries to enforce Europe's claims rather than Europe press their claims directly. Goes along with Roosevelt's foreign policy "speak softly, and carry a big stick."

    First global war that began in Europe.The main cause of it was the assassination of Archduke Franz-Ferdinand of Austria. Allies (Britian, Italy, USA, Japan, France, Russia) versus the Central Powers (Germany, Austria-Hungary, Turkey). Ended Nov 11, 1918

    Sinking of the Lusitania
    Germany submarine warfare against the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland.Contributed to America joining WWI and many countries turned against Germany.
  • Good neighbor policy

    Roosevelt announced in his inaugural address that the good neighbor policy shall be used. It was meant to lessen intervention with countries and lessen Latin America's fear towards us.

    Surprise military attack done by the Japan army against the US at our naval base in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Led to the US joining WWII.

    Most widespread war in history. Started because of Germany invading Poland. Allies (USA, Britian, USSR) versus Axis (Italy, Japan, Germany). US did not join until Pearl Harbor was attacked by Japan.
  • Bombing of Hiroshima

    Bombing of Hiroshima
    Bombing done by the US at the end of WW2 (also bombed Nagasaki). The bombing was done after Japan had surrended, and only showed them that the US was to be feared/the boss.
  • Truman Doctrine

    Truman Doctrine
    Policy to try and stop the Soviet Union/communism from expanding during the Cold War and that the US could aid any country that felt threatened by communism or the Soviet Union.
  • Marshall Plan

    Marshall Plan
    American decision to aid Europe after WWII. Gave $160 billion to rebuild Europe.
  • Korean War

    Started from the division of Korea dividing after WWII. South Korea against North Korea, which the US fought for the South and China for the North (also assisted by the Soviet Union). Known as the "Forgotten War".

    The US sent troops to Vietnam to try and prevent a Communist takeover of South Vietnam.
  • Eisenhower Doctrine

    Speech done by president Eisenhower in which a Middle Eastern country could ask to be aided or assisted from US forces if it was being threatened or attacked by another state.

    Closest we have ever came to coming to a nuclear war. Was between US and Soviet Union. We had missiles in Italy and Turkey and Cuba and the Soviet Union decided to place their missiles in Cuba.

    Ended January 17, 1991. US didn't like Iraq invading and annexing Kuwait

    Four terrorists attacks by al-Qaeda. Happened in New York City and Washington, D.C. Killed almost 3,000 people and caused at least $10 billion in damage.

    Military campaigned that started after 9/11. Planned to eliminate al-Qaeda. NATO and non-NATO nations participated in the conflict.
  • Afghanistan (Operation Enduring Freedom)

    The war in Afghanistan. This began because of 9/11. Bush sent troops into Afghanistan due to terroist acttack.
  • Operation Iraqi Freedom

    Operation Iraqi Freedom
    Armed conflict in Iraq that had 2 phases. First phase was an invasion US led that ended Ba'athist Iraq. That was followed by more fighting to oppose the occupying forces and the newly formed Iraqi government. Started because Iraq's alleged possession of weapons of mass destruction caused a threat to their security. Ended Dec 15, 2011.

    US started to launch air strikes on ISIS after them killing innocent US journalists and how out of control they have gotten in Syria and Iraq.
