The American Revolution was the 13 orginal English colonies fight for independence from Great Britain. -
The New Nation Era
This was the "setup" of the newley formed nation, the U.S. constitution was ratified, the bill of rights was formed,put in place a system of checks and balances and other constitutional principles. -
Expansion and Reform Era
This was the start of the U.S. starting to expand towards the west, their purpose being to find gold in the California gold rush and fulfill their manifest destiny. This was also a time for reform, with the women's suffrage movement, the temprance movement, and asylum/prison reform. -
The Civil War
The Civil War was the brutal fight between the Union (the North States) and the Conferacy (the South States) over whether or not it was right to enslave African Americans. -
The Reconstruction Era
The 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments were passed. Also was the start of the Ku Klux Klan -
Westwrd Expansion
The U.S. Started expanding towards the West, helped the growth of railroads, mining, created a ranching and cattle boom, and sparked farming and agricultural innovation. Also started conflict with the Native Americans. -
The Gilded Age
And age of a large Industrialization boom, started large monopolies, entreprenuers such as Andrew Carnagie, and immigration. Also started Urbanization in the cities. -
The Progressive Era
The era of progressive movement, started democretic reforms, regulation of monopolies, consumer protection, environmental conservation, women's suffrage, and prohibition. -
U.S. Imperialistic Era
1898-1914, This Era is when the U.S. starts to become recognized as a powerful country, and through this era rapidly moving toward the title of "Superpower". During this time the U.S. started to expand over seas, Annexed Hawaii, and started the Spanish- American War in 1898. -
WWI
WWI was the first war that a large portion of the worlds nations were involved in. During this time, "trench warfare" was created, the Zimmerman telegraph was sent from Germany to try and gain Mexico as an ally, and the League if Nations was established. -
The Roaring 20's
Also known as the "Jazz Age", The Roaring 20's was a very different time to WWI. At this time, people were very classy and liked to have fun. Alchohol was banned at the time due to prohibition, and at this time the "new" KKK formed. -
The Great Depression
The Great Depression lasted until 1941, and was one of the main causes of WWII, being that this was a world-wide recession. Some of the main causes of the Great Depression include two stock market crashes within two weeks, a very high unemploment rate, and WWI -
WWII
The U.S. entered WWII on December 7th, 1941, when Pearl Harbor Navy Base was bombed by Japanese bombers and Kamakazes, who were allies with Nazi Germany. Throughout the war Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany attempted mass genocide of the Jewish popluation and anyone who didnt fit into his idea of the "Master Race", being blonde hair, blue eyes, and no physical or mental issues. The U.S., with the Allied Forces defeated the Axis Powers and ended the war with a bang by dropping the first Nuclear bombs -
The Cold War Era
The Cold War was not really war, but the threat of war was certianly there. Throughout the Cold War Era, many feared the Soviet Union because they were the only other nation who had nuclear bombs. We also opposed the Soviet Union because they were Communist and were were, and are, a Democracy. We also had a "Space Race" with them, meaning we raced them to the moon, and we are the only nation to this date to land a man on the moon, although the Russians did land a rover name Sputnik first. -
The Civil Rights Movement
Lasting through 1968, the Civil Rights Movement was a giant protest for the right for African Americans to have all of the same rights that any other person has. Two of the main leaders of the movement include Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr., who gave his famous " I Have a Dream" speech. Another main event was the case Brown Vs. The Board of Education, which ended segregation in schools. -
The Vietnam War
Lasted through 1975, the Vietnam War was a by-product of the Cold War, and was the only actually war fought against communism. The U.S. supposted South Vietnam against the Communist North Vietnam. There was a huge draft fot men to fight in Vietnam, and many thought that the war should not be fought, creating a large "counter-culture". -
The Late 20th Century
Just after the end of the cold war the U.S. started to see many changes coming its way. A few of the problems that happened during this time period, and still extend into our era are inflation, the oil crisis, and the Conservative Resurgance. The biggest benefit of this time was the new "technogoical revolution", which brought about many inventions, such as the cellphone, the downsizement of computers, and many more. -
U.S. in the 21st Century
The new millenium has seen many good and bad events. The good events include the election of Barack Obama, and the inverntion of the iphone/smartphone. The bad events include the terrorist attacks on 9/11, the War on Terror, Hurricane Katrina, and the econimic recession in 2008.
