My dad John D Rockefeller supported the civil war with money and my uncle fought for the north -
Typewriter was invented
My parents had received a typewriter from the inventors themselves at a party they attended and when I was a young lad I used leave notes for my parents on the magic machine -

During this time period I was around time I was in school learning how to eventually take over my father's business. There was a lot of poverty but the government covered it up and said that the country is in a prosperous time. -

When Alexander Graham Bell (my other uncle) invented the first telephone he created some for all of the family to enjoy -
Jim Crow Laws
When the Jim Crow laws came out I was devastated and it just felt like slavery was back in a way. Racial Segregation is terrible and just WRONG. They segregated African Americans by not letting them in the same bathrooms, schools,etc. -

This originally was supposed to break up my father's monopoly but it did not outline what a monopoly was so his business was not in trouble -
Monopoly/ Vertical and Horizontal
People think my dad created a monopoly because he was the only provider of a good or service. Also because he used horizontal integration because he bought out all of his competition people think it is a bad thing. At least he didn't control all the steps to make and ship his products -
immigration
During the early 90's there was a wave of immigrants coming into our country. They were trying to take the average citizen's job even though mine was safe because of my dad working for Mr. Rockefeller some of the average citizens were very angry
They came to this country because in their country they had no religious freedom and they might have not have had jobs.
Mos immigrants faced culture shock because they didn't know the customs or spoke English. -
Unions
Many workers tried to unionize so they could get working conditions but under my dad they were great. They were very uneffective because we turned the public against them -

He was also a monopolizer and one of my father's closest friends -
Muckrakers and Upton Sinclair
My second cousin Upton Sinclair was a muckraker or someone who exposed the bad problems in the US -
Ellis and Angel Island created
When Ellis island was created I was furious, all immigrants do is take our jobs, at least they were checked for foreign diseases and had prove that they had a bit of money by having to pay to get in. At both islands people would take a physical, literacy, and us history exams -
Poor farmers
Our cousin Micheal Scott was a farmer and was struggling with paying off his debt but my father bailed him out with all of his money -

Meat Industry is exposed
Upton Sinclair published the Jungle in Chicago exposing the meat industry. My father was disgusted by this and the goverment shared the same feeling and put the meat inspection act in place to make the meat cleaner. -

When our president Wilson came up with the 14 points I was very upset. I want to stay neutral and we should not have to deal with Europe anymore
Also the LON is a peace union with all countries but the US di not join because they wanted to stay neutral -

This was a major court case when i was in my 50's when the US limited freedom of speech if it was talk against the war efforts -

My father and I and especially my mother were for women rights my mother attended every one of Carrie Chapman Catt's parades and fundraisers, my father also donated money to her to make all her events possible.
