England was ruled by Tudor monarchs.
Henry VIII separate from the roman catholic church, so he went to Parliament to legalize his actions.

Stuart Family come to Rule
Elizabeth dies without a child, and throne passes to James I. This is when the Stuart's start their rule in England. The Stuart's were not as liked as the Tutors and were not as skillful when coming to Parliament. -
Charles the First comes to Rule
Charles I takes the throne He followed his father by ruling as an absolute monarch. -
Charles had to summon the parliament
Charles had to summon the parliament to raise taxes. Before doing that, the Parliament suggested that he signs the Petition of Right that doesn't allow him to raise taxes without the Parliaments consent. -
Charles got rid of the Parliament
Charles did end up signing the petition but got rid of the Parliament. For 11 years he ruled without the Parliament and ignored the petition. -
Scottish rebellion
Charles and Laud attempted to put the Anglican Prayer book on Scotland. The Calvinist Scots rebelled. -
The Long Parliament begins
Because of economic issues and to prevent the Scottish rebellion, Charles had to summon to Parliament. When it met, the Parliament revolted. -

Charles had to summon the Parliament for 13 years until 1653. England was struggling economically and had problems with Scotland. The long Parliament worked to expand its power. -
Charles I lashes back
He goes to the house of commons with a group of troops to arrest the most powerful leaders. They escaped through a back door and soon raised their own army. -

The civil war begins. The war was a roadblock toward absolutism. -
The Cavaliers are defeated
The Leader of round heads Cromwell defeated the Cavaliers in a series of battles. The King was controlled by the Parliamentary forces. -
King Charles the first dies
Charles the first gets executed because of the civil war.
