Battle of Iwo Jima
It was the first major battle of World War II to take place on Japanese land. The U.S. determined that Iwo Jima must be captured. Dropping of the Atomic Bomb
An American bomber dropped the world's first atomic bomb over the Japanese city of Hiroshima. The explosion killed 90% of the city and immediately killed 80K people, tens of thousands more died of radiation exposure.
