John Dickinson. The Townshend Acts struck people into anger. One lawyer from Pennsylvania, John Dickinson, wrote a series of 12 essays, which became very popular at the time, speaking out against the acts. These essays were signed as "A Farmer from Pennsylvania." -
What was it?
The Townshend Acts of 1767 imposed duties/taxes on glass, paint, tea, paper, and lead imported into the colonies.Townshend hoped it would lower imperial expenses in the colonies. -

Why were the duties put in place?
They were designed to collect revenue from the colonists in America by putting customs duties on imports of glass, lead, paints, paper, and tea. Also British didn't have enough money to supply their own people from the other war that just happened. -

In Britain, Parliament repealed all of the Acts except the tax on tea, leading to a temporary truce between the two sides in years before the American Revolution. (Boston Tea Party)
