    Treaty Of Tordesillas
    The Treaty of Tordesillas, signed at Tordesillas, 7 June 1494, divided the newly discovered lands outside Europe between Spain and Portugal along a meridian 370 Castillian leagues west of the Cape Verde islands. The Treaty of Tordesillas was agreed upon by the Spanish and the Portuguese to clear up confusion on newly claimed land in the New World.
