The Colubus Exploration
Columbus did find America, but he did bring it to Europe’s attention. He set Europe up to establish an important link between the Eastern and Western hemispheres. This allowed others to explore the land he found, opening new trade and land to colonize on. Without this, the British would never have colonized North America, meaning the colonies would never have had the chance to rebel and form the United States. -
The Signing of the Declaration of Independence
The event of signing this document declared the thirteen American colonies were no longer a part of the British Empire. After this the colonies were considered independent stays. Without this event the United States would have never had the chance to be created. -
The Signing of the Constitution
The signing of the constitution shaped American history by setting up our government that we still have today. But it didn’t only shape American history, the constitution acted as a model for other countries’ constitutions. It also revolutionized the thought of a republican method of government. -
The Lewis and Clark Epidition
The Lewis and Clark Expedition was to learn about the northwest’s natural resources and population. It set the stage for western settlement which would allow the young and devolving United States to grow. During the expedition, 122 species of animals and around 178 plants were documented. Also, the expedition gave the U.S. a better grasp of the northwestern geography and lead to one of the first precise maps of the area. -
The Industrial Revolution
The Industrial Revolution had the most effect on the United States in 1820-1870. It began in Britain and spread throughout Europe, eventually making its way to the U.S. It transformed the economy by taking on capitalist aspects, encouraging new inventions to improve efficiency. Even today new inventions are brought forth to make our lives early. -
The California Gold Rush
The California Gold Rush attracted great numbers of American citizens and new immigrants to California. The occurrence of gold in California, which was not a part of the United States at the time, made is valuable to the U.S. With its rapid growth, California was able to demand indulgences from the U.S., which included immediate statehood, expanding the United States’ borders. -
The Civil War
The Civil War shaped American history by killing over 600,000 people all on American soil. The war killed off more than 2% of the countries population. The war also boosted the American economic power. But the biggest impact the war had on the country was the fact that after the war, Americans thought as themselves as less of individual states and more of a single nation, the United States of America. -
World War II
World War II shaped American history by bringing us out of the great depression by causing an economic boom from the war production. It also allowed women more rights. While the men were at war, the women had to work their factory jobs and such. -
The Civil Rights Movement
The Civil Rights Movement mainly took place during 1955-1965. It shaped American history by declaring discrimination was unjust and no longer being tolerated in the United States. This gave truth to our constitution and made our country truly free. -
The 9/11 Attacks
The tragic day of September 11, 2001 made definitely its mark on American history. It caused American to realize the importance of having a secure nation. But most importantly, the attacks caused all parties and citizens of the United States to unite as Americans.
