Lousiana Purchase
This was a purchase of land from France that nearly tripled the size of the United States. They got the land very cheap due to the time period this took place. This land would end up boosting the economy by millions. -
Oregon Trail
This trail was created to help with westward expansion. It was a very dangerous journey but many felt it was worth the risk due to the chances of striking it rich. -
Emancipation Proclamation
President Lincoln issued this proclamation after the civil war. IT states that all slaves had to be freed in the states that were rebelling from the union. However the proclamation didnt take affect until January 1st of the next year. -
The Civil War
This was a war fought between two sides.. except both sides were in the same country. The south was fighting the north over the always controversal topic.. slavery. The south wanted to keep it, whereas the north wanted to be rid of it. The north proved victorius after many years of fighting. -
Woman's Rights Movement
The date on this event is when the 19th amendment was added to the constitution which gave woman the right to vote among other things. The movement itself however took almost a century to achieve the goal of having the right to vote. This event is important because it helped further Americans still growing respect for equality. -
Bombing of the World Trade Centers
This was a very tragic day in American history. On this day the World Trade Centers were brought to the ground by two terriorist planes. Almost 3,000 people where killed from this accident. Another plane landed in the Pentagon and the fifth plane was brought down by non-terriorist plane riders in a field in Pennsylvania
