The Mexican War
The Mexican American War ended in 1848. This led to the Civil War because after the U.S won much territory, James Polk and his partners did not know what to do with the land. There were many diputes wether it should be free land or slave lad. -
Fugitive Slave Act
The Fugitive Slave Act was passed as a part of the Compromise of 1850. This led to the civil war because it enfforced any federal official to pay a fine if they did not arrest a runaway slave. This made the abolitionist very upset and increased their efforts agaisnt slavery. -

Written by Harriet Beeher Stowe. This led to the civil war because it showed Northeners how slaves were being treated and it also made abolitionist put in extra effort. -

Abraham Lincoln elected for president
This led to the Civil War because 6 states, including South Carolina, warned that they would secede from the Union if Lincoln was elected as president. Lincoln and the Republican Party decided that any states joining the Union could not be slave states. -
Fort Sumter Battle
This led to the Civil War because this is the battle that started the Civil War. Confederate Brig. Gen. P.G.T. Beauregard opened fire at Maj. Anderson in Fort Sumter. Later that day Maj. Anderson opened fire back and the war finally had begun!
