    Andrew Jackson
    Jackson served as the 7th president of the united states he was an american soldier and a statesman. Jackson was also the only president to be held prisoner of war. after his famous action in the war on Britain he would become Americas most influential and polarizing. he was a democrat and lead the westward expansion. He was also his legacy is tarnished by him forcing all of the southern Indians into Oklahoma. this picture shows Andrew Jackson during his presidency
  • Joseph smith

    Joseph smith
    Smith is the founder Mormonism, also he was the founder of latter day saints. when he was 24 he published the book of Mormon. Joseph claimed to be visited by Moroni who spoke of a ancient Hebrew text that was lost for 1500 years. it was said to be tracked back the the Israelite kicked out of Egypt that moved to america. The religion caught on quickly and within 2 years Smith had 2000 followers. Smith set up temples in Ohio, Missouri, and Illinois. this picture has smith when he was young.

    The Alamo
    December 12 1835 a group of Texan volunteer soldiers occupied the Alamo, a Franciscan mission. On February 23 1836 a army of thousands of Mexican soldiers attacked the Alamo the Texan militia and Texan army got attacked they held their position for 13 days before the Mexican soldiers defeated them. The Mexican army was led by Antonio Lopez De Santa, and the Texan army/militia was led by David Bowie and William Travis. The Texans numbered only 200 members. the picture is of the Alamo.

    Trail of Tears
    The trail of tears was a big event in the westward expansion. The Americans force the Choctaw, Cherokee, Chickasaw, Seminole, and the Creek Indians out of the southeastern states. All or the 125000 Indians were put in concentration camps until they made the journey. many of the Indians died of starvation and paid way more than the whites would for food from the white farmers. The Indians would die and just be buried on the side of the road. The picture I decided to use shows the trail of tears.

    Manifest destiny
    Manifest Destiny is the term for the attitude during that time period. It helped fuel the war on mexico, annexation of Texas, and the removal of the Indians. It was first used by John O, Sullivan the phrase was put into the United States Magazine which Sullivan edited. The phrase made people want to get California and Oregon Providences for their expansion. Manifest Destiny started as a democrat saying. this picture is manifest destiny

    Mormons
    In 1846 the Mormons of Nauvoo made the long journey to the valley of the great salt lake in Utah. the Mormons had a hard time settling somewhere indefinitely in 1844 angry mobs killer Joseph and his brother in their home and then started burning home and threatening other Mormon families until the left. My photo shows a group of Mormons.

    Donner party
    The Donner's left for California April 1846 they followed the regular trail until they got to fort Bridger Wyoming. They decided to take a supposedly shorter easier route to California made by landlord Hastings who was taking some people on his trail. The trail got longer and harder the farther they got. they had to leave people that couldn't go further behind to die. When they got stuck in the sierra Nevada mountains they resorted to eating leather and anyone who died. below is George Donner.

    The Mexican war was the first armed war fought on foreign soil for america. It was pitted to a militarily unprepared mexico from the expanding country of america. The battle at Rio Grande was the first of many american victories. Near the end of the war mexico lost one third of its territories and most the south west territories of the present day America.The area north of the Rio Grande was occupied by 75000 Mexicans and lead by Col. Stephen Kearny the area was taken with little effort.
  • Gold Rush

    Gold Rush
    The first gold was found at a mill known as Sutters mill. The gold was found by a man trying to make a water powered saw mill, by the end of 1849 the population of California was up to 100,000. Most men that heard about the gold left and mortgaged their homes and their wives to deal with the farms and children. A total of 2 billion dollars worth of gold was mined by the end of the gold rush. All together the weight of all the gold mined was 750,000 pounds. The gold caused the mexican war to end.
  • Brigham Young

    Brigham Young
    Brigham Young was made the leader of the Mormons when Joseph smith was assassinated. In 1832 he was baptized in the church of latter day saints and was said to be an apostle in 1835. After being made the leader of Mormons he remained president until he died in 1877. He lead the movement of Mormons from Illinois to Utah that consisted of 16,000 morons. Brigham taught the Mormons of arts, also contracted for the making of the railroad and telegraph lines. My picture shows young in his youth.
