Timeline war of 1812

  • Washington’s Proclamation of Neutrality

    This was to inform Britain and France that the conflict they had was gonna stay neutral. It also threatened the people if they tried to do anything to help there would be consequences.
  • Jay Treaty

    This treaty prevented war with Britain but it gave the British the rights to remove the French property from neutral ships.
  • Washington’s Farewell Address

    This was a letter that was written to the citizens and friends of George Washington. It basically warned the people about political parties.
  • Chesapeake-Leopard Affair

    This was an affair with the British and Virginia. This happened because the Leopard was looking for deserters from the Royal Navy. It showed that the relationship between Great Britain and the US wasn't good.
  • Embargo Act 1807

    This was an act created to trade embargo with all nations. Which led to the economy crashing.
  • Impressment of sailors

    This is when Britain's Royal Navy sent officers on American ships to inspect the crew and everything they had on the ship.
  • War Hawks

    These were young politicians from the west and the south. They went to war because they wanted British aid to stop.
  • War of 1812 Begins

    They went to war because they didn't like that Britain was limiting their trade and they wanted to expand their land.
  • Tecumseh

    Tecumseh was a Native American that wanted to create an Indian state to stop white settlement.
  • Hartford Convention

    this was a meeting that was a secret between the Federalists delegates discussing that the federal government had too much control. They also talked about not wanting Madison in office.
  • Treaty of Ghent

    This was the treaty that ended the war of 1812.
  • Battle of New Orleans

    This was a war fought to separate Louisiana from the rest of the US. If the British got that to happen they thought they could have an advantage with the Louisiana Purchase.
