Timeline Project (development)

  • Conception/ Male or Female

    For a child to be conceived, a man and a women have to have sex. The egg and the sperm meet and the baby is conceived. To decide the child's sex depends on the chromosomes that are received XX (girl) or XY (boy) because I am a girl I have XX.
  • Chromosomes and Genetics

    During the duration of when the child is in the mother's womb chromosomes are being crossed, from the mother and father, to decide how the child will look and if it will have certain diseases. For example, my mom and dad have brown eyes so I have brown eyes.
  • Germinal Period, Embryonic Period, and the Fetal Period

    The girminal period is the first 14 days of conception the tast of this period is to recieve impantation. After that comes the Embryonic period which last from the third through the eighth week of pregnancy; in this stage the baby does the most developing (eyes, arms and legs are formed). The fetal period is the last stage which starts the ninth week after conception. This stage touches up dramatic changes like adding a joint to the baby's leg.
  • Birth

    On this date I was born (38 weeks after conception). The doctor took my vital signs and gave me to my mother for my first breast- feeding. This is our first minutes of physical bonding.
  • Home After Birth

    After being in the hospital for a few days my mom was releases and her and my father returned to their house where they would begin taking care of me on their own.
  • Biosocial

    Two weeks after I was born to two years after is when my brain grew the fastest. Neurons begin to connect. My brain needs experience-dependent and experience-expectant situation for my brain to grow and mature. Sleep is also a big part of my brain developing during this age I experienced more REM sleep.

    Perceiving

    During my first two years of developing I used my senses to test out many things, eyes, ears, mouth, nose, and touch, a process called sensation. After that I would process that information. A process called perception. For example, when I saw my mother I would smile because I knew she made me happy and took care of me.

    Moving

    During the first couple years of my life I developed my motor skills. First i begin to lift my head up and then before my mothe rnew it I was able to scoot myself over to her. After I was able to scoot I crawled and after crawling I walked.

    Object Permanance

    When I was little pick a boo was a really fun game to me because when the person covered their face I really thought they disappeared because I did not see them so when they showed their face again I was very excited and amused.

    Listening and Responding

    When babies are young they listen to their parents and try to respond to what they are saying or try to imitate it. Because they cannot really speak yet this language is called babbling.

    Emotional development

    Babies that are 1-2 start to portray emotions on their face. They smile, laugh, and squint their eyebrows down to simulate an angry face, and also pout when they're sad. Toddlers start to notice when their parents leave and they can get scared and have anxiety. During these years is when children become attached to their parents.

    Talking

    When babies are around one they usually say their first word. Usually it's "momma" or "dada". When they pass age two they usually know how to say about twice as many words.

    Motor Skills (2-6)

    Motor skills around this age are a lot more improved. Kids learn how to climb on things, do flips, and ride their bike. Children become more independent and want to cut their own food and make their own plate.

    Preoperational Thought

    At this age children are very egocentric and only look at situations from their perspective. Children are also very vulnerable to thinking that if any amount of anything looks taller in on container than in the other even if they have the same amount the container that looks taller has the most.

    Social Learning and Language

    At this age children learn form other people a lot. They watch adults and children that are their age or older. They are very determined to do things on their own. Children also make up reasons why things occur ever if that reason is not true. This is called the theory of mind. Children also learn a lot more words and how to speak properly at this age.

    Emotional Development

    At this age children become more capable of expressing their emotions. Children are very driven depending on their parent's feedback. Their self-concept depends on how their parent's react to certain situations. Sometimes around this age children may make imaginary friends and have conversations with them. The imaginary friends can help with emotional development for the child.

    Play

    Playing is very important for early childhood it builds friendships, helps with development, and is also fun for the child. Having friends or playmates is important because children learn a lot from each other and it also teaches the child how to share and get along with other people.

    Body Changes (2-6)

    During these years nutrition and health is important. Although children have not had their adult teeth come in yet oral hygiene is important to teach them because then they will know how to take care of their adult teeth. During this time children are starting to understand a lot more and by age 6 their brain is 90 percent of their adult weight. Children start to think faster and react quicker to situations. Children around this age are very impulsive.

    Growth, Strenght, and Activity (6-11)

    At this age children stop growing as fast as they were before and they start to lose their baby teeth. Continuing and building healthy health habits is important because it will stick with them their entire life. At this age children start to venture off more and are more liable to make neighborhood friends. This is important because children make rules and abide by them.

    Information Processing

    At this age memory is more improved form when the child was younger. They are able remember things for a longer time and also are better at storing it. They also connect new information with information that they already know so that they can remember things. Language is more developed, children speak better, and are also able to adjust their vocabulary to their setting.

    Childrens Perception of Themselves (6-11)

    Once children get older they develop a view of themself called self-concept. these views include their intelligence, personality, and ability. According to how a child feels about themselves their self-esteem develops.

    Children and Their Peers

    Children usually make friends when they are in school. Sometimes they make groups where they exclude other children (popular and unpopular). Some children experience bullying while in school and this can affect their view of themselves. Other children bully others and it makes them feel that they have power over their victim.

    Brain Development (6-11)

    At this age children are more able to sit and pay attention for a longer period of time. They also develop selective attention where no matter what is going on around them they can still pay attention to one thing.
  • Started Menarche

    I was in 7th grade and I was at home. I didn't think that I would have started mine so I asked my mom what it was. I was kind of embarrassed.

    First Boyfriend

    I had my first boyfriend. I did not tell my parents because I was not allowed to have one yet but my mom knew I had a crush on him.

    Sex

    When I was in 8th grade all of my friends use to kiss their boyfriends, i still thought it was kind of gross, and they use to talk about how they planned to have sex with them. They use to ask me if I was going to since I had a boyfriend and I said no because I was scared and they use to laugh at me.

    All About Me (Egocentrism)

    For my first two years of high school I thought everything was about me and that my problems were everyone's problems. I also though that every problem was the end of the world.
  • ACT

    Taking the ACT was probably the most stressful time of my high school career. Teachers put pressure on students and make it seem like this test can make or break your entire career. When in actuality it is only important your freshman year of college to see what classes to place you in and to get into a college.

    Texting Friends

    The last two years of high school were the best for me. I had a lot of friends and I felt like everyone liked me and I was constantly on my phone texting my friends. It could have been a little addicting.

    Relationship with Parents

    When I was a senior my relationship with my parents and family were very good and I was very thankful for everything my mom was doing and had done for me.
  • Prom

    Prom was probably one of the best day of my life I had so much fun and I felt beautiful. After prom I hung out with my friends all night and I didn't get home until about 1 in the afternoon the next day.

    Volleyball

    My first two years of college volleyball was an experience and I learned a lot form it. I developed my skills a lot and I have gotten a lot better since high school.

    Managing time

    During my second year in college I learned how to manange my time very well. I knew exactly when things needed to be done by and I made sure that I always planned ahead.
  • My Friend/s

    When I was in high school I thought I had a lot of friends but I have come to find out that those people were just acquaintances. I truly only have two friends and the other people that I sometimes hang around not my friends just associates.

    Stress

    My second semester this year at schoolcraft was probably the most stressful. My classes were challenging and I was also coaching and still playing and keeping in shape for the upcoming season.

    Getting to know who I Am

    Right now I am getting to know the person I am and what I like and believe in. I'm also learning how to live on my own and not depend on my parents as much. I know what things interest me and I know what my goals are for my career.
  • Dating

    Maybe i'll start being interested in dating and finding a husband aound this time. We probably will not cohabitat until we get engaged.
  • Career

    By this time I want to be starting my career as a Physician Assistant.
  • Secure

    Hopefully by this time I'm making good money and am secure in my job.
  • Marriage

    Maybe if I have found someone by this time we might be able to get married. I might be ready to settle down by then.

    Kids

    If I'm married and our marriage is going well we might start having kids.I want to make sure we get all the traveling that we want to do out of the way first or else we might regret having kids too early.

    Weight Gain

    Hopefully after I have kids I dont keep all of the baby weight. I plan to keep myself in good shape by staying active my whole life and eating right.
  • No more kids

    By the time I am this 37 I do not want to have anymore kids so hopefully I would have gotten that out of the way. The only thing I want to focus on is my family, marriage, and career. I want to have 2 kids so hopefully I have them by this time.
  • Menopause

    I want to start menopause around 40-47 becuase I want to make sure that I do not have kids when I am sexualy active and if I have gone through menopause there will be no accidents.
  • Midlife Crises

    My husband goes through what people call a midlife crises. however, he only buys a sports car.
  • Friends

    My friends and I from college still get together and hang out every once in a while.
  • Start Excersizing everyday in the morning

    At 50 I'm going to start excercising everyday so that my limbs don't get stiff and so that I can be healthier as I age.
  • Retiring!!

    I'm retiring so that I do not have to work! And I'm going to make sure that I have some money saved up so that I can be comfortable. My husband and I are going to retire together.
  • Vision and Hearing

    My hearing and vision will get a little worse but not too bad.
  • Voluntering

    Everyday around thanksgiving and Christmas I am going to volunteer at shelters to help the unfortunate.
  • Slower Thinking

    At 64 it will start to take me a little longer to try and think and respond to things.
  • Memory

    At 67 it will be a little harder for me to recall certain events that happened when I was younger but not too hard.
  • Brain Exercise

    At 70 I will make sure that I excercise my brain everyday
  • Nutrition

    I'll make sure that I eat heathier becuase I know that my eating habits affect my aging.
  • My home

    At 70 I'm going to start to do more yard work and house work. My house is going to be perfect.
  • My Friends

    My two friends that I have are stil going to be my friends and we are going to vacation together.
  • Long Term Care

    If I ever am not able to care for myself I would hope that my kids would care for me.
  • I'm Dying

    Im going to die in my sleep peacefully. With no complications.
