  • 1492

    Columbus

    Columbus, an Italian sailor, sailed the Ocean Blue. Though songs about him tell that he landed in North American, it was actually Central America in which he landed.
  • 1494

    Treaty of Tordesillas

    The Treaty of Tordesillas was a product of an agreement between Spain and Portugal. Even though it was an agreement -- Portugal got Brazil -- Spain mostly profited from the agreement.
  • 1521

    Cortes and the Aztec

    Aztec beliefs said that their gods would come riding upon a horse (or what we today call a horse), and Cortes took that to his advantage of conquering the Aztec empire. After a violent siege, Tenochtitlan, the Aztec Empire Capitol, fell to the Spanish.
  • Jamestown Colony

    The settlers who found Jamestown had to build the first colony 60 miles up the James River. And just like many others who had tried to settle down, the Jamestown settlers also faced many hardships.
  • Settlement in Plymouth

    The Plymouth Settlement was established for purpose of the Puritan, who's purpose was to nurture the idealistics and beliefs that the Puritan believed, but was not accepted back in England. As it started to prosper, it was soon nicknamed as "New England".
  • Mayflower Compact

    The Settlers in Plymouth came together, and 41 men agreed to make just and equal laws and rules. Those same men agreed that the government is to be chosen by the people.
  • Founding of Maryland

    Maryland was originally supposed to be a haven for the Roman Catholics who were not welcomed in England; but instead there were more Protestants than Catholics who moved there. The assembly passed the Toleration Act so that the Roman Catholics were able to practice their religious practices.

    Charles II and the Restoration

    After much civil war, Charles II's reign in power was nicknamed "Restoration" for it's time for exploring once more and restoring the English monarchy. During this time, the King owed money and favors to those who helped and supported him during the civil war.
  • The Carolinas

    The Carolinas were very different from each other: the South had a good harbor and had slave-labored farms while the North had small farms and a not so good harbor. The King of England split the Carolinas due to the amount of investors who sold their shares, interests, and properties to the King.
  • Georgia Enters

    Georgia was originally meant as a military buffer zone between the Carolinas and the Spanish Florida. It is also known that Georgia was the last one to join the 13 colonies.
