    Completion of the Transcontinental Railroad
    The transcontinental railroad was important to the US by connecting the country through trains. The railroad was 1,776 miles long and spanned from Omaha to San Francisco. This railroad connected the east and west, allowing people cheap and fast travel across the states.
  • John D. Rockefeller started Standard Oil

  • Alexander Graham Bell invents telephone

    Sherman Antitrust Act
    The Sherman Antitrust Act was the start of banning monopolies in the US. This act would later have to expanded on to become more effective, but was a good start to controlling the power of companies. With the Sherman Antitrust Act companies were given less power and influence in the US and the power they could use to corrupt the US.

    Ellis Island gave a place for immigrants to enter the US safely. Here America could also check immigrants and make sure they wouldn't be a danger to the country. This was also the main place immigrants came into America, and was able to control who came into America.

    Tenement Act
    The Tenement Act was able to give low income immigrants better living conditions. Kicked off by Jacob Riis with his book "How the other half live." This gave immigrants more open living spaces, and better hygiene options.

    Pres. McKinley is assassinated and Progressive Theodore Roosevelt becomes President
    The assassination of McKinley was a good thing for America. The assassination led to Teddy Roosevelt becoming president, which began progressiveness. Roosevelt helped start the movement that made America better.

    Upton Sinclair releases “The Jungle”
    Sinclair's novel "The Jungle" exposed the meat packing plants and the disgusting natures of the plants. This book helped show people how bad and disgusting their meat and food was which eventually led to the Pure food and drug act. The book also helped lead to the inspections of companies, and of course the book helped meat safer for people to consume.

    Creation of the NAACP
    The NAACP was created to help stop segregation of colored Americans. This was eventually able to help colored Americans get equal opportunities in the workplace and in schools. The NAACP was able to then get blacks the right to vote and equal rights.

    The Triangle Shirtwaist Fire
    This fire had a big impact on how factories were run. With the death of 145 workers, New York was quick to change it's strictness on the safety and health of work environments. With New York changing the restrictions, every other state was quick to follow suit, which eventually led to inspections of work places.

    The Assassination on Austria’s archduke Franz Ferdinand starts WWI
    This event of course started WWI which would eventually help lead to women's suffrage. This event led to a conflict between Serbia and Austria, which would then led to Russia being involved. This then would lead to America being involved all starting with the assassination of Franz Ferdinand.
  • The Panama Canal is completed and opened for traffic

  • The United States enters WWI

    The United States enters WWI
    This event was good for the women fighting for suffrage. With the men going to war, the women were able to show they can take the responsibilities of the men while they were gone. This would weaken the opposing side for women's suffrage, and eventually lead to women getting the right to vote.
  • Ratification of the 18th Amendment - Prohibition

  • Women got the right to vote.
