    This invention improved the productivity of mining by being able to pump water out of the mines more efficiently. This also led to factories being more productive as well, because they didn't need to rely on man power. In later years the steam engine led to the invention of the train, which helped transport goods quicker. Lastly, it led to population booms in cities where steam engines were being manufactured or used.
