Kennedy sent his version of the Bill to congress saying that this legislative action was imperative. The bill first went to the house which was still gathering support to pass it. -

President Kennedy was assassinated in Dealey Plaza while driving in his presidential motorcade in Dallas, Texas. -
Lyndon B. Johnson is sworn in after President Kennedy’s assassination as he was the vice-president at the time
Johnson is sworn in on the same day as Kennedy’s assassination and takes it upon himself to pass the Civil Rights Bill in memoriam of President Kennedy. -
The Bill came before the Senate
The Bill came before the Senate and a filibuster was enacted which lasted a whopping 54 days. -
The Bill passes through the Senate
A full year after the bill was proposed it finally passed through the senate with a 73-27 vote supermajority. -
President Johnson signs the bill into law
After making it through congress the bill finally reached the presidents desk and he signs it into law. This bill has a massive impact on the civil liberties of black people in America and is one of the biggest accomplishments in the entirety of the Civil Rights Movement.
