Jobs at Preschool
When I was 4 years old, my preschool teacher had jobs for kids to do at the end of the day. I found out that I liked particular jobs more than other jobs, specifically being the line leader. This influenced me because I learned to take turns with other kids and that I wasn't always going to get what I wanted. This agent of socialization was school. -
My Little Sister Being Born
I was 5 (almost 6) when my sister was born. It was a totally new situation for me because this was my first time being around a baby all of the time. This influenced me because it taught me to be gentle with babies and how to treat them because they are very fragile. This agent of socialization was family. -
Starting a New Sport
When I was 8 years old I started playing basketball. My friend and her dad convinced me to join their basketball team, so I played in a 3v3 league with them for many years. This influenced me because basketball was a big physical activity so I learned to be active, and a little scrappy too. The agent of socialization was peer groups. -
Taking Geometry in 8th Grade
When I was 13 I started taking an online geometry course. My math teacher saw potential in me so she pushed me ahead of the other kids in math, and I took geometry online in 8th grade. This influenced me because I learned to be very independent, as there was no teacher to teach me the content (I had to teach it to myself). This agent of socialization was school. -
Moving to Romeo Schools
When I was 14 I moved schools. I went to a charter school that went from Kindergarten to 8th grade, so naturally I moved to Romeo for high school. This influenced me because I learned to be social with new kids and be outgoing to make new friends. This agent of socialization is school. -
Riding a Roller Coaster for the First Time
When I was 14 my family went to Disney and Universal for a week. When we were walking around Universal, we found a super crazy Hulk roller coaster that everyone wanted to ride. I was a little skeptical at first because it was my first time, but I went anyway and it was awesome! This influenced me because I learned to face my fears and to live in the moment to have fun. This agent of socialization was family.
