My First Experience in an Elementary School
During my senior year of high school, I shadowed a Kindergarten teacher at my elementary school. I was able to get a real feel as to what life as a teacher was like. I helped planed lessons, completed activites, and worked one on one with the students in the class. This experience truly showed me that teaching was the career for me. -
College
On my 18th birthday, I began my college experince at IUP. I was so excited to be an elementary education major, and could not wait to learn all about my profession. -
Junior Block
I completed my Junior Block placement at Apollo Ridge in 5th grade. I loved working with the older elementary students. I taught them science and social studies, and learned so much more about challenging and special needs students during this experience. -
Student Teaching
I was placed in the Plum Borough School in a first grade classroom for my student teaching placement. Plum was an unfamiliar school district for me, but I fell in love. My first graders were the best students and my experience with my cooperating teacher really solidified my career. Little did I know, Plum would be my home, and place of employment a few years later! -
Graduation
I graduated from IUP on May 10, 2010 with a degree in elementary education and a concentration in reading! Substitute teaching was the next step of my journey! -
Long Term Subsitute
I was hired as a long term Kindergarten teacher in Plum, teaching at the same school I student taught at. I was in this position from August-Decemeber. This opportunty allowed me to really focus on my strenghts and weaknesses as a teacher. I remeber being so nervous and so excited at the same time. -
Hired as a Contracted Teacher
Plum Borough School DistrictWhile I was in my long term postion, I was applied to Plum to be one of the new elementary computer teachers. I went through two round og interviews and was hired! Not only did I student teach and have a long term sub job at my school, but now I was hired full time! I have now been in this same position for the past 4 years. Hopefully, I will get back into my own classroom soon!
