  • Brown Vs. Board Of Education

    Brown Vs. Board Of Education
    The case came about after African American parents wanted their children to attend the, closer to home , white schools, but they weren't allowed because of segregation. The decision of the case overturned the Plessy v. Ferguson decision of "separate but equal". The case ruled that segregation in public schools is unconstitutional.

  • Vietnam War

    Vietnam War
    This war was so aggressive to where it lasted from November 1, 1955 through April 30, 1975. This war prolonged the struggle between nationalist forces attempting to unify the country of Vietnam under a communist government. It all started with the “Operation Rolling Thunder”, which is when North Vietnam was bombed. Then it led to Guerilla Warfare, Agent Orange, and the attacks from Viet Cong.
  • Little Rock Nine

    Little Rock Nine
    This group consisted of nine African Americans that wanted to attend school at Little Rock Central High School. These African American students just wanted to attend a better school that was closer to their homes. The school was filled with all White Americans but no colored people. When the students wanted to go to school Arkansas government refused to let them in. But President Eisenhower had military to let them in while giving then full protection.

  • Bay Of Pigs

    Bay Of Pigs
    In an attempt to remove communism from Cuba, the U.S planned to invade Cuba and overthrow Castro. They invaded Cuba with 1,400 people, but because the troops were outnumbered they surrendered so the invasion failed. JFK was humiliated by the failure but took full responsibility.
  • Berlin Wall

    Berlin Wall
    The Berlin Wall was referred to as the Iron Curtain, it was built to prevent people from fleeing the communist government. East Germany became communist under the control of the Soviet Union, but West Germany didn’t like the way they were being treated. So some citizens attempted to jump the wall and escape, but they ended up dying. By 1987 president Ronald Reagan gave a speech to “tear the wall down”, by October 3, 1990 Germany officially tore the wall down.

  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    Following the Bay of Pigs, tensions rose due to the Cuban Missile Crisis. The Soviet Union had missiles and nuclear bombs stationed in Cuba aimed at the U.S, and the U.S had missiles stationed in Turkey. The stand off between the two nations lasted 13 days until JFK ordered a naval Blockade Agreement.This stated both the U.S. and the Soviet Union would remove their missiles and the U.S. promised not to invade Cuba. This avoided war and made it look like the Soviets had backed down.
  • March On Birmingham

    March On Birmingham
    The March on Birmingham was organized in order to draw attention to African Americans integration efforts. Although it was organized on the basis of nonviolence the police chief , "bull" Connor used teargas, fire hos, and dogs against the participants. The event contributed to the creation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964
    and the Voting Rights Act.
  • March On Washington

    March On Washington
    This occurred in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, August 28, 1963. It was followed after Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his “I Have a Dream” speech. The march impacted many people from the Civil Rights Movement. In this march many African American people walked for their rights and freedom that they should have. This event was historical for all the African Americans including some White Americans who chose to be involved with the rights of the other Americans.

  • My Lai Massacre

    My Lai Massacre
    In 1968, American troops had a brutal massacre. The troops ended up killing around 400 children and women. This massacre occurred during the Vietnam War.
  • The Space Race

    The Space Race
    This competition started during the Cold War when the United States started to become engaged in the new technology that the Soviet Union was able to put into space. Both countries were able to put a satellite into orbit but the Soviet Union was the first to place Sputnik into the orbit. Later they had a race to put the first man into orbit, then after to put the first man on the moon. The United States were the first ones to successfully put a man on the moon, Neil Armstrong.
  • Kent State Massacre

    Kent State Massacre
    After Nixon announced the invasion of Cambodia many people were outraged. At Kent Sate university college students gathered to protest against the Vietnam War.The Ohio National guard fired at the protesters, killed 4 of them, and left 9 wounded.

  • Nixon Resigns

    Nixon Resigns
    Following the Watergate scandal President Nixon resigned from office. Because he was already about to be impeached, he decided to resign before the impeachment went through. The day after he publicly announced his resignation on national television he officially ended his term. He became the president to resign.
