9/11 Terrorist Attacks
This was a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks by the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda on the United States. About 3,000 people lost their lives that Tuesday, whether they were in the building or they were someone trying to save the lives of others. This was the first time the term "terrorism" became such a vital part of our lives. Although it was tragic, it was very significant in that we began to unify as a country and our overall nationalism and patriotism increased. -
"No Child Left Behind" is signed into law
This act signed into law authorizes states to make it required to test students in reading and math in grades 3–8 and once in high school. It is also to ensure that all children in the United States receive a high-quality education and to close the achievement gap that exists between children who typically perform well in school and those who do not. This event was significant because it shows that the government has taken action into furthering the education for the generation of the future. -
First American Bomb Drops on Baghdad
Beginning from the Gulf War of 1991, this event sparked the start of the Iraq war in 2003 by provoking Iraq's capital city, Baghdad. The war continued through sanctions which attempted to limit the power of Iraq. Due to this tragic event thousands died from the bomb and the radiation it gave off. This event was not America's most honorable time because they were almost a defenseless country, but it says a lot about our nation's need to fix other countries. -
America Lifts Travel Ban to Libya
The United States lifted a long-standing ban on travel to Libya, after Moammar Gadhafi’s government affirmed that it was responsible for the bombing of Pan Am flight 103 in 1988. This was significant because it allowed the U.S. to travel to Libya to give American corporations an opportunity to do financial and strategic business legally in Libya’s rich oil fields. It also would help Gadhafi emerge from semi-isolation. -
President George Bush is Sworn into his Second Term
George W. Bush became the 43rd president of the United States leading from 2001- 2004, he later was reelected in 2005 to carry out 4 more years. In his inauguration speech given as he was sworn into his term, he address American ideals and plans he has for our nations future. This was a significant event in history, specifically to government, in that a position such as president is so vital to our society especially when ruling for an extended amount of time. this proves he did his job well. -
I moved from Fox Chase to Abington
On this day, my family and I moved from Fox Chase into Meadowbrook. This is significant because that same school year I would have to go to a different school in a different area. I had to make all new friends that year, my new neighbor who happened to be my age later became my best friend. -
US Airstrikes in Somolia
This event took place in an effort to hunt down Islamic extremists, their whereabouts, and their knowledge. The airstrikes were prompted because the U.S military thought they had pin-pointed the location of the principal al Qaeda leaders. Although it was an unfortunate event because 31 were killed, it was significant because it showed U.S effort to take down the terroristic oppression al Qaeda was causing the United States. -
I Went into Anaphylactic Shock
When I was six years old I went to the doctors to get my booster shot and I woke up the next day with my whole body swollen, even my throat was closing up. My parents rushed me to the emergency where the doctors told me I went into anaphylactic shock because I was allergic to the pertussis of the vaccine. This has a great impact on my life because I still get the same shots as everyone else but now I have to get the pertussis part in the hospital. I have to be very careful when at the doctors. -
Global Financial Crisis
This event the world economy faced was its most dangerous crisis since the Great Depression of the 1930s. Banks didn't trust anyone to pay them back so they simply stopped making the loans that most businesses need to regulate their cash. Also the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 33.8% of its value. This was significant because people lost their jobs and their lives were greatly affected. This was a low point in the financial government which acted as a rock bottom for us to succeed from. -
Barack Obama's Inauguration
On this day, Obama defeated the Republican nominee, Senator John McCain of Arizona, making him the 44th President as well as the first African American elected President. After being the senator of Illinois for several years, Barack Obama over came many obstacles to become the main leader of this country. This was significant because it shows our growth as a society electing an African American man as our president and also our racial tolerance. -
My First Trip to Disney
In 2009, when I was 8 years old I took my first trip to Disney with my family. There we stayed in the Grand Floridian, went on rides, met princesses and other Disney characters and saw some live shows. This event had a great influence on my life because now I realize the amount of planning and money it takes into taking a trip like this. I will forever be grateful for that experience because not everyone has the chance to go on vacation. -

President Barack Obama signed this act into law after a year of debate. Originally known as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, this law grants Americans a number of new benefits, rights, and protections and ensure that more US citizens have access to affordable, quality healthcare. It acted as an important event in government history because now Americans may access basic health care more affordably. Although controversial, this benefited Americans. -
Navy SEALS gun down Osama bin Laden
On this day in 2011, Osama bin Laden, the mastermind behind the 9/11 terrorist attacks in the United States, was killed by U.S. forces during a raid in Pakistan. After a decade long manhunt, navy SEALs shoot him after discovering his location. This was important in government history because it officially ended the fear in Americans of further terrorist events. Our countrie's defense came together to eliminate a significant threat to the citizens of the United States. -
My grandfather passed away
My grandfather whom I was very close to passed away this summer. He lived in the huse next to ours, and after shool everyday I would visit him and tell him about my day. This was an important event in my life because it taught me not to take anything for granted. I was very close to my family before this event, but after I was even closer. -
My Soccer Team became 2nd in the State
It was not just one game that led us to become the 2nd girl soccer team in the state, it was a long season after season of hard work and team effort. The game that finalized our 2nd place was one of the best moments of my life. Everyone was so happy and grateful. This event had a significant influence on my life because it showed me that nothing is handed to you and you must work hard for the things you want. -
Obama is Reelected
Barack Obama was elected to a second presidential term, defeating Republican Mitt Romney. After leading for 4 consecutive years as president, he ran a year later and successfully won from the votes of the citizens. This acted as a significant event because although many people disagree with his ideas, being reelected proves that not only him but we are ready to follow under his rule again. Our president in which we elect says something about who we are as a country to other nations as well. -
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton Resigns
Hillary Clinton served as the 67th United States Secretary of State, overseeing the department that conducted the Foreign policy of Barack Obama. Her handling of the Benghazi tragedy is what ultimately made people to push her to resign as secretary. Another view was that she stepped down in order to plan her presidential campaign for late 2016. This was important because not may political figures resign in such a way. This caused an uproar for both democrats and republicans on what they thought. -
I fractured my pelvis
The summer going into 7th grade, I fractured my pelvis in two different areas.I was kicking the ball and while my angle was off I still followed through a little too hard.I had to be rushed to the hospital where they gave me crutches to use for 8 months.Although most of 7th grade I was on crutches, this event was greatly significant in my life.It taught me to be more carful and not to take soccer so seriously because that event could have gone a lot worse and affected my live forever. -
I won the Earth Science Award
At the end of seventh grade, at the awards assembly, I was given the earth science award for my grade. Although it came as a total surprise at the awards assembly that my teacher had picked me, that year I had worked hard in that class. Science is my favorite subject so naturally I was interested in the topic. This event was an influence in my life because I was rewarded for my determination in the class. I now know it you want to be successful you must put in the work. -
300 Military Advisers are Sent to Iraq
This event was ordered by President Obama to help its struggling security forces fend off a wave of Sunni militants who have overrun large parts of the country. While protecting over seas, the U.S military gathered intelligence on how big the threat the group poses as well as which militant targets could potentially be struck by possible airstrikes. This was important because it was a strategy that president Obama enforced to help and protect the people of our nation and of other nations. -
Same Sex Marriage was Legalized Nationwide
After several years of countries banning same sex marriage in many states, on this day it finally became legal. there were many court cases that have accumulated over the years fighting for and against gay marriage. This day in history was significant to many people in America especially the gay community. This showed tollarance given by the government and the citizens which means we are growing as a nation. -
I made the high school soccer team
Going into seventh grade I made the high school soccer team. Through 2 weeks of preseason twice daily, the teams were made. I had been very nervous for the season but it actually turned out to be a lot of fun. This acted as a big influence in my life because this event taught me to take chances and make the most of the opportunities you get. -
My cat passed away
Just last month, my family and I had to put my cat down. This was a very hard thing for my family and I to do considering we had him for over 15 years. He was suffering for a long time now so it was the best option. This had a significant effect on my life because it was the first pet I lost and it taught me that everything happens for a reason, you should always loo for the positive in every situation. -
Obama Announces Federal State of Emergency
This event is still actively happening. Since there will be a category 4 hurricane hitting parts of Florida known as Hurricane Matthew, the state and the federal government have called for an evacuation. No roads going into Florida are open only the ones coming out are. They are calling for severe damages and power outages for an extended amount of time. This had a big influence on peoples lives because now they have to find a safe place and put their house at rick of destruction.
