Council for Exeptional Children (CEC)
The CEC is a professional organization that was founded by Elizabeth E. Farrel. The purpose of CEC is to improve individuals with disabilities, gifts, or talents. -
Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA)
ESEA was signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson. The point of ESEA is to provide funding to schools with low income families. The act gets reauthorized by the government every five years with revisions and amendments. -
(PARC) Pennsylvania Association of Retarted Children v. Common Wealth of Pennsylvania
Ensures that children with mental retardation are entitled to free public education. The law protects the children and their family. The state of Pennsylvania was not allowed to decline any child with a mental disability to receive education. -
Mills v. Board of Education
Children were denied education because of they were considered to be "exeptional." A lawsuit was then filed against the District of Columbia so that students despite of disability were able to receive education regardless if they were unable to pay for it. The judge ruled no child should be denied the opportunity of education. -
Vocational Rehabilitation Act (VRA)
VRA forbids discrimination in disability programs. Section 504 works with the ADA and IDEA to protect adults and children from discrimination. Because of this law, people have gained the opportunity to go to work and school. -
Education of All Handicapped Children Act (EAHCA)
EAHCA makes sure that the public school with any disability the advantage to receive education. The act requires parent involvement in which parents ensure that the decisions being made for their child's education is fair. The act also provides funding to help states educate students with disabilities.

Honig V Doe.
Schools are not allowed to suspend or expel a student because of a behavior related to a disability. John Doe a 17-year-old student was suspended for attacking a student who was making fun of him. American with Disabilities Act
The ADA prohibits any kind of discrimination toward people who have disabilities in all areas of their life which include work, school, transportation etc. The law protects people with disabilities so they are able to lead a normal life. The purpose of the law is to make sure that people have the same equal rights and opportunities that others would have. -
Individuals with Disability Education Act (IDEA)
The IDEA mandated that children with disabilities are treated equally to the ones that are not disabled. Students are placed in general education classrooms among the other students receiving the same education even with extra resources. The law offers students different educational settings for the student to be in a less restrictive classroom. -
No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB)
NCLB was signed by president George W. Bush. It makes sure that children, including with disabilities receive good education. Standardized testings are given yearly to the children in grades 3-8 and in highschool. It allows the schools to boost the performance of all students.
