Yuzuru Hanyu was born on December 7, 1994, in Izumi-ku, Sendai, Japan, the second and youngest child to his father, Hidetoshi Hanyu, who is a junior high school teacher, and Yumi Hanyu, a former at a department store.

Yuzuru got discovered with asthma in 1996. He suffers from asthma, and often stops to catch his breath after finishing his programs.

He landed two quadruple jumps, a quad toe loop, and a quad salchow, in his free skate.

Yuzuru's first medal was in a Florida's championship. He won a gold medal.

Hanyu qualified for the 2013 Grand Prix Final in Sochi, where he finished second with a score of 92.63

Yuzuru won the Olympic gold medal and gave Team Japan 10 points. Also at the competition, Hanyu set a new world record in the short program with 99.84 points and won the title.

During the free skate warm-up, Hanyu collided with China's Yan Han. Hanyu was visibly injured but decided to compete. He fell five times in the free skate but scored enough to win the silver medal.

He skated a clean short program at the 2016 Olympics scoring 110.56 points. He won the competition, had huge lead and broke a record.

Hanyu competed at the Autumn International, where he won the gold meda, became the first skater in history to successfully land a quad loop in a competition

In 2018 Winter Olympics Yuzuru won his second Olympic gold medal. At his first competition of the season, Skate Canada Autumn Classic International, Hanyu broke the world record he set previously at the 2015–16 Grand Prix Final with 112.72 points.

At the 2022 Winter Olympics, Hanyu missed an opening jump due to a hole in the ice and placed eighth.
