Pretty Woman Impact
My mother remembers this film, she says it impacted many woman at the time but she always told me she had mixed feelings about what the message was of this flim. Young girls internalize these messages and construct their identity and worldview, one informed by this social narrative. Girls grow up into women who believe that in order to get what they want (love, value and recognition) they must show some skin. This expectation is inherently dehumanizing, discriminatory and humiliating. -
1990 Chemical Weapons Accord
On this day in 1990, President George H.W. Bush and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, meeting in Washington, agreed to halt their production of chemical weapons. The pact also called for the eventual destruction of 80 percent of their chemical weapons stockpiles. -
Female homicides in Ciudad Juárez
117 violent deaths women and girls in the city my father grew up in. He told me he at the time wanted to go visit to protect my cousins and tia's. Very scary time for my father's hometown. Ciudad Juárez became infamous for a wave of attacks beginning in the 1990s that left hundreds of women dead over the course of a decade. -

Videotaped violent and brutal beating of black motorist Rodney King when he allegedly resisted arrest following a high-speed car chase. Thousands in the Los Angeles area joined in a race riot involving acts of law-breaking, including looting, assault, arson and murder, seeing in King an example of injustice against minorities in the United States. -

California Proposition 187
Californians pass Proposition 187 with 59 percent of the vote. This bans undocumented immigrants from receiving public education and benefits such as welfare and subsidized health care (with the exception of emergency services); makes it a felony to manufacture, distribute, sell, or use false citizenship or residence documents; and requires any city, county, or state officials to report any suspected or apparent illegal aliens. -

Selena's murder was a tragic death in the hispanic community. My mother exactly remembers her thoughts about the death. My mother remembers how a Radio personality Howard Stern mocked Selena's murder, burial, and her mourners and criticized her music, playing her songs with gunshots in the background, causing an uproar among the Hispanic population. -

At the age of 22 my parents decided to have a children together. They were both still attenting college and working to provide a better life for me. Their story makes my heart melt everytime I hear how inlove they were. -

My mom and I were always very close. I was her first born, they say that the mother is always super crazy in love with the first born. This makes me happy compared to my brother. -

My mom told me I was about 4 months here and It's crazy how much she looks like me. She told me on this day, they went to take professional pictures of me and she told me I was too small to hold my head up, so It looked like I had no neck. From time to time my parents laugh about it. -
California Ban on Affrimative Action
In California, a state ban on all forms of affirmative action was passed. Proposed in 1996, the ban had been delayed in the courts for almost a year before it went into effect. Proposition 209 stated "the state shall not discriminate against, or grant preferential treatment to, any individual or group on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin in the operation of public employment, public education, or public contracting." -
O. J. Simpson Trial
A civil jury in Santa Monica, California, unanimously found Simpson liable for a wrongful death. Famous case of the late 90's. Simpson was arraigned and pleaded not guilty to both murders. As expected, the presiding judge ordered that Simpson be held without bail. The media was insane, my parents remember it. -

The Lewinsky scandal was an American political sex scandal emerging in 1998, from a sexual relationship between 49-year-old President Bill Clinton and a 22-year-old White House employee, Monica Lewinsky. The news of this extra-marital affair and the resulting investigation eventually led to the impeachment of President Clinton and his impeachment charges. -

I was always the youngest among my friends and finally I have turned 18th! My bestfriend did a really nice gesture. It made me really smile. You always give a teenager clothes or money but this time she gave me my favorite flowers and I love pugs, so she baked the cupcakes as pugs. -
SUNNY
I love pugs! They are my spirit animail. I have so many apparel of pugs. I finally saved up enough money and bought this puggy. He came to me and I picked him up and I knew he was the one. Taking care of a dog has taught me so much responsablities. Better to have a dog than a kid at my age.
