    The Black Death Arrives in Europe

    In 1347, ships docked in Sicily and introduced the Bubonic Plague to Europe. The Black Death spread through Europe during the mid 1300s and decimated the population. It is estimated that 70-200 million people died because of the plague.

    The Visconti Rule in Milan
    Milan was an important part of the Renaissance. It was one of the city-states in Italy. It was "the crossroads of trade" between Western Europe and Asia. The Visconti family ruled Milan for the first half of the 15th century.

    Michelangelo was a very famous renaissance painter. He was an Italian artist, and from 1508 to 1512 he painted the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.

    On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the church door. It exploited the church's use of indulgences and its corruptness. This was an important event because it eventually led to the creation of Protestantism and was part of the Reformation.

    Henry VIII Divorces his First Wife
    On May 23, 1533, Henry VIII divorced Catherine of Aragon. This is an important event because this was the whole reason Henry VIII separated himself from the pope and the Catholic church, and made himself in charge of the Church of England. All so he could divorce his wife. And about 6 more.

    The Council of Trent was a council held by the Catholic church to clarify their doctrine and teachings. It emphasized the differences between them and other Christians, and it focused on teaching their youth.
