    Invention of the Telephone
    Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone and was awarded a patent in 1876 on this device. The telephone was a huge success and within 10 years, more that 100,000 people in the US owned a telephone.
  • The Spanish-American War begins

    The Spanish-American War begins
    This war begins with the sinking of the U.S.S maine. This war ended Spanish colonial rule in the Americas and resulted in U.S. acquisition of territories in the western Pacific and Latin America.
  • Titanic

    Titanic
    The Titanic strikes an iceberg and sinks, killing 1,500 people. The Titanic was intense competition to rival shipping lines. However, it is believed that it was doomed from the start.
  • United States enters World War 1

    United States enters World War 1
    The U.S. joined its allies Britain, France, and Russia, to fight in World War 1. Many Americans were not in favor of entering the war and wanted to remain neutral.
  • 18th Amendment

    18th Amendment
    This Amendment prohibited the sale and manufacturing of alcohol beverages. This resulted in the rebellion of the roaring twenties. Gangs were formed and violence broke out against this law. Speakeasies were established and flappers became the face of this time period.
  • Great Depression

    Great Depression
    The stock market crashes, leading to the Great Depression. This was the worst economic downtown in the history of the industrialized world. President Herbert Hoover was blamed for everything during this time. 15 million Americans were unemployed and nearly half the country's banks failed.

    President Franklin D. Roosevelt introduces this series of programs and projects to solve the Great Depression. It was aimed to restore prosperity to Americans. His goal was to stabilize the economy and provide jobs and relief to those who were suffering.
  • U.S. enters World War II

    U.S. enters World War II
    The Japanese attack Pearl Harbor, and the United States enters World War II. Hundred of Japanese planes descended on the base. More than 2,400 American soldiers died on the attack.
