  • Nullification

    The Nullification Crisis was a sectional crisis during the presidency of Andrew Jackson created by South Carolina's 1832 Ordinance of Nullification. This ordinance declared by the power of the State that the federal Tariffs of 1828 and 1832 were unconstitutional and therefore null and void within the sovereign boundaries of South Carolina.
  • Abolition Movement

    The goal of the abolitionist movement was the immediate emancipation of all slaves and the end of racial discrimination and segregation. The north wanted to abolish slavery all together but the south wouldn't allow it.
  • Frederic Douglass and the North Star

    He was an African American longing to create an African American News Paper. When he toured in Europe, many people helped pay for shis freedom and soon his dream became true
  • The Comprimise of 1850

    California asked permision the join the union as a free state. Tipping the slave to free state ratio. It also finally established a boundary for New Mexico
  • Kansas Nebraska Act

    It opened new lands for settlement. And also setting the slavery issue as popular sovreighnty.
  • Bleeding Kansas

    Took place between kansas and neighboring towns of missouri. It was the war on Slavery and foreshadowed the Civil War. It was a proxy was between North and South.
  • Dred Scott Decision

    This was a court case that made 2 rulings. First ruling was that African Americans were not citizens. The second ruling was that the federal government had no power to regulate slavery in any territory acquired subsequent to the creation of the United States.
  • Election of Lincoln

    After Lincolns inauguration, 7 states seceded from the Union. The election wasn't the only cause of seceding. The tariffs put on South Carolina and the emancipation of African Americans
  • South Carolina Secedes

    The convention had been called by the governor and legislature of South Carolina once Lincoln's victory was assured. Delegates were elected on December 6, 1860, and the convention convened on December 17. Its action made South Carolina the first state to secede
  • Seceding from the Union

    The 7 states that seceded then created their own government, the confederacy. They were warned by the Union and the Union also did not recognize them as a government. They attempted to have help from other countries but they never recieved the support
