    Education for All Handicapped Children Act (1975)
    EHCA Provided Free and Appropriate Education to everyone including placemnt into the least restrictive environement (USDOE, 2007). This was the beginning of students having their own education plan called an IEP. The way this Act made education possible for everyone, is how IDEA makes AT possible and required for anyone who needs it.

    Technology Related Assistance Act of 1988
    Tech Act 1988 Commonly referred to as the Tech Act. Signed into effect in 1988 after being passed by Congress and signed by the President. Designed to increase overall public awareness of and access to AT devices and services (CPIR, 2013).

    Americans with Disabilities Act 1990
    ADA 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) (1990) changed the face of civil-rights forever. The ADA passed in 1990 created equal rights and opportunities to transportation, employment, and other government related services wihout discrimination (EEOC, 2008). All AT devices became widely available for use if and when needed.

  • IDEA 1997

    IDEA 1997
    Illinois State Board of Education President Clinton signed the Amendment in 1997. Key points are inclusion into classrooms with non-disabled peers, early interventions prior to school age, and higher expectations for disabled students (Meeks, J.T., 2015).

    IDEA 2004
    IDEA 2004 Signed by President Bush in 2004. Key aspects were the grant money given to individual states so they can provide necessary services and devices to students with disabilities and stronger IEP goals were established to replace the short-term goals (CEC, 2015).
